Last week, we looked at the defense. Now it's time to take a look at things offensively and tackle Michigan's recruiting board.

  • Really liking these posts, Steve! Hope you keep these coming every couple months or so as the class evolves.

Side note: this thread inspired me to finally watch Ashton Jackson's full tape...came away really impressed. Really apparent top-end speed, really good vision, very good at picking his way through defenders, and definitely a tough runner. Not a untackleable wizard like Hood or a guy that's gonna really bring the hit stick like Green, but he's always fighting for extra yards, shakes off arm tackles with relative ease, usually took multiple guys or at least multiple contacts to bring him down. Also impressed by how quickly he was often able to regain his pace after getting through a guy diving for his legs...there are several runs in the beginning where you figure there's no way he'll score after getting tripped up like that but BOOM off he goes. If we miss on Hood and Mixon, I'd very much like to see us go after this kid, could be a really good complement to the more power-style runners we've been getting.

  • Really great post Steve. It is stunning to me how few Michigan kids are included but talent wins out.

  • For the 2014 O-Line class I would love to get Doles, Cole and Bars. Then for the 4th spot any one out of JBB, Jordan Polard, Sam Mustipher, Jamarco Jones or Braden Smith. I guess since I made the 4th spot list so long, we might as well add Orlando Brown. I'm definitely not opposed to them taken an unpolished T prospect since they don't have to step right in...something like a Denzel Ward, JBB type player.

Exactly what I would like to see at OL also. Doles, Cole, Bars, and then a high risk/ high reward LT prospect. And my preference would be JBB if it helps with Peppers. If JBB has no effect on Peppers, then I'm indifferent as to who exactly is the 4th OL as long as they have high potential.

How likely is it that Bars is in the class?

  • Nice write up Steve.

Do you think we are done at QB? No chance of a lower rate guy or an ATH type just for depth?

If it was up to me, they should take one more, but they seem comfortable in sticking to one per class. Still think not taking one in 2012 could come back to bite them if injury or something else occurs.

We should have taken two QBs in 2012 or even 2013 to fill the void left by the loss of Tate Forcier after the 2010 season, but 2014 really is too late. Both the 2014 and 2015 classes will be small (20 or less) which makes it very challenging to find room for two QBs. And after this season, assuming Gardner gets his medical RS, we will have four scholarship QBs anyway. Unless Gardner is denied his medical RS or Bellomy decides to transfer after this season (either of which would open up another scholarship so we can take a second QB in 2014), we will be back on track with four scholarship QBs beginning in 2014.

I agree with Woodson. We should've taken one in 2012 or two in '13, now it's too late. Taking another guy won't help us this year or next year at this point; let's cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Taking another guy this year just gives us another young guy 2014 fall, not this year, and we're screwed anyway if things have gone badly enough that we have to play a true frosh over Gardner, Morris, or Bellamy.
