Big 2, Little X - how I missed you so

    The season is more than one game. Something MSU fans haven't figured out yet. Get to BCS Bowl first sparty. lol

    Edit: You and your ilk banned people for less than what you just posted. Keep staying above the fray rock, I would expect nothing less than hypocrisy from you.

    I've banned people for that? You might want to check before you just accuse me of doing things. I also took a 1 year ban one of our mods gave out to one of your posters down to a few days on his request after reviewing his posting. It's up to each individual mod how they ban people and for how long. There are 14 or so of us, so there are bound to be inconsistencies. I've turned down at least 3 requests from our posters to ban you, but hey, I'm just being a hypocrite, right?

    You're pretty bold on your home board, calling me a hypocrite and a dumbass (in the UM-MSU game thread). I actually did expect better from you.

    Look champ, it's hard for it to return to the Big 2 Little 10 if Michigan can't get out of its own division. At Large BCS bids are great and Michigan earned their Sugar Bowl bid. I think all of you would have taken a shot at the Rose Bowl over the Sugar though.

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    And your ilk. thumbsup

    I've called you a hypocrite on tBB also, remember the PM's you sent me? Dumbass post are just that, dumbass. shrug. I expected better from you also at one time, reading your post at trcmb changed what I expected from you.

    We had our shot at, fell a game short. Season as a whole was solid though, BSC Bowl selection and win proves it. Coming off a 7-6 season, new coaching staff turns that team into an 11-2 team, returning most of the starters on O and D, recruiting top 10 talent for the future, and I am happy with where Michigan is heading.

  • Can we consolidate the arguing into one thread? There are like three threads with essentially the same argument going on right now.

    And I'm happy the way MSU is heading. State fell 1 game short of a BCS bid and it was their own fault. I've never denied that UM deserved the Sugar Bowl bid.

    What's the official count on O and D starters returning? Do you go by people who have started multiple games as starters, 1/2 the year as starters, etc?

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    As you should be.

    I would say someone who gets 4 or 5 starts in.

    I want to say 7 or 8 on O, I have stated 8 in the past.

    QB= Robinson
    RB= Toussaint
    FB= Hopkins
    WR= Roundtree
    LT= Lewan
    LG= Barnum or Schofield
    FG= Omameh

    Fringe WR= Gallon

    Side note for the O. Schofield was the backup to all oline positions outside of Center.

    Defense I though was 9 at one time, I didn't realize Heinenger (sp) started 12 games, producing little will do that.

    DE= Rob
    WLB= Morgan
    MLB= Demens
    SLB= Ryan
    CB= Floyd
    CB= Countess
    S= Kovacs
    S= Gordon

    Nickel= Avery

    Always nice to return your entire back 7 lol.

    That it is, but replacing the interior of the Dline is scary, especially with unproven talent there. At least MSU has White coming back.

    Yep QW and BWC have to have an amazing spring and summer and unfortunately we need Ash and Pipkins to be huge contributors too. I hope it happens.

  • Something completely overlooked by most was the lack of bowl practices in the RR era. Every coach uses that time to evaluate the next years returners. The Gator Bowl hardly counts because everybody knew the staff was getting broomed and there was zero evaluation going on.

    We have a lot of returning players that have had superior coaching to go along with that valuable bowl practice month.

    Don't forget that Dantonio lost to Michigan his first year, and that didn't affect his next 4 years. No new coach at UofM had ever beaten State in year one. Bo lost in 69 then ran a train on Sparty for the next 2 decades (and State was coming off their best decade ever in the 60s).

    State's not the same ole Spartans but Hoke is infinitely better than RichRod. I like where things are going.

    MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

    Starting to get a bit off topic, but how do you guys think either/both of us match up to Nebraska, as they are likely the 3rd wheel in our division race?

    If they fall off, it will greatly diminish the importance of MSU playing them in East Lansing while UM plays them in Lincoln. But if they improve or stay at a 9-10 win level, where the games are played could become quite a difference-maker...

    We hold the upper hand because we kicked the crap out of them, IMO. They will be fired up to play us but they couldn't stop us and Martinez sucks. Burkhead had 30 rushing yards. We can't expect them to fumble like they did but they'll still have to find a way to stop Demard & Co

    Yeah, you guys did own them. For MSU, the Nebraska game seemingly signified a shift in the offensive gameplan strategy, as the offense was much more effective after the matchup. Will definitely be interesting to watch it unfold...

    I think the rivalry is going to be very competitive in the future. UM did change coaches after MD's first year; MSU did not do so after Hoke's first year. Tough schedule for UM this season; getting 9 wins in '12 will probably mean you're as good as you were in '11. UM does get a breather after that tough Non-conf schedule though: Bye, @Purdue, IL at home before MSU comes knocking.

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    Roushar had 2 major brainfarts this year: ND and Nebraska. In the other games the O was fine; the CCG was borderline brilliant. I don't know why Roushar kept throwing into the teeth of a Cover 2 against Nebraska, but man, that was embarrassing.

    Overall, Nebraska needs to improve it's LBs drastically. They came from a conference where they could sit in Nickel or Dime on 80% of the downs and just bat down passes; now teams that can run up the middle really give them problems. The option is a pain, but not unbeatable and Martinez is a homeless man's Shoelaces as a passer. They're probably looking at '13 at the earliest for having a legit Big 10 D. They don't have a quality pass-rushing DE and all their LBs are suspect. Pelini's seat is getting warm as well.

    I'm also curious to see what happens with Notre Dame if Kelly has another mediocre year. Schedule is much tougher for them this year; Navy in Ireland and Purdue at home then . .

    @MSU
    UM,
    BYE,
    Miami(FL),
    Stanford,
    BYU,
    @Oklahoma
    Pitt, @BC, and home against Wake before traveling to
    USC

    Kelly better get his QBs figured out soon.

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
