Berger potentially visiting

  • May be adding Kyle Berger to the visitors list this weekend:

"I'm possibly visiting. I got invited up there by Tom Lemming for what I think is an Army Bowl interview and its before a Michigan spring practice so if I do go, I'm going to stay around for a practice."

Berger would join Da'Shawn Hand, Nic Weishar and commitment Michael Ferns as the visitors this weekend.

  • I feel like Berger's recruitment is trending very well for Michigan right now, hopefully Hoke and Co. can lock him up soon.

Hoke was the keynote speaker at Lemming's banquet in Chicago a couple months ago.

    OSU didn't want him anymore.

Urban said he wants him but the offer is non commitable, so Urban doesn't want him, but he does if Berger wants to.

Urbie passed Berger's HS coach a note that said he would like Berger if Berger liked him. And Berger is supposed to check the box marked "yes" and send the note back to Urbie if he wants to commit.

When he tweeted something about a 20 on the ACT not being impressive, he alienated himself from his potential future teammates. At least according to the thread on Bucknuts.

  • This is what I don't understand about Ohio State recruiting during Urban Meyer's tenure. Kyle Berger seems like the ideal LB - brains, size, speed, character....etc. Yet he's not a priority to Ohio, wtf? I saw on Espn that Ohio probably wants 4 LB this cycle and has 5 LB targets ahead of Berger (Raekwon McMillan, Clifton Garrett, Dillon Bates, Kain Daub, and Dante Booker). Its almost like character and smarts don't really matter to Meyer. I'm sure thats not true, maybe he just doesn't emphasize those qualities the way Michigan does.

And he did it last year too letting Michigan steal Ben Gedeon and Mike McCray right out of his own backyard. Tressel never would've let these kids go.

    His loss.

    Berger is perfect for Michigan.

  • Right now, Meyer thinks he can get the guys at the top of his list, every time. We will see. I think the strategy is going to hurt them long run.

I agree with this. And the reality is recruiting is imperfect. We won't know for several years which LBs on your list will turn out better. Why not take the Ohio kid? He probably grew up a Buckeye with a hatred of UM. Instead, he ends up at UM with a chip on his shoulder when he plays OSU and he very well could turn out better than some or all of the OOS LBs OSU signs instead. It makes zero sense.

Yeah, Urban is recruiting with a big ego. He thinks he can just go and get a commit from any kid in the country. It seems like he'd rather roll the dice and recruit a Florida/Texas 5 star than recruit a mid/high 4 star Ohio kid.

That's the thing; flip flopped the recruiting strategy under Sweater Vest which was focus on Ohio and attempt to cherry-pick from national talent. Now it *looks* as if he's content with cherry-picking Ohio and focusing on national recruits.

Which is a bad strategy, imo. You need to lock up your home state.
