College Basketball Recruiting / Offseason

  • Judging from the headline of a Scout.com article, AJ Turner still does not have the Michigan offer he wants.

I like his game a lot and I hope he eventually gets one.

He's been told he's a 2nd tier option essentially. Until Booker, Bluiett, and Edwards make their decisions, I doubt any other 2014 prospects get offers (unless somebody totally blows up the AAU circuit this summer while the coaches are out recruiting, similar to Hardaway getting the offer while the staff was still waiting on Zeigler).

  • I thought as much.

Frankly, I like Turner's game more than Bluiett's game but I have to defer to Coach Beilein.

However, we were fortunate that we didn't get Trey Zeigler. Coach Beilein and his staff have done an excellent job of recruiting but I never understood why we pursued him. Even on tape, Zeigler looked below average. You should hear Pittsburgh Panthers fans talk about him. Many of them even hate him.

  • I would be happy with Turner no doubt. I think we have a good chance with Edwards, Booker, and Bluiett. Would love to grab all three if there is room.

  • I just watched Mark Donnal highlight tape, good God am I excited about him! He can play inside and outside. Gonna give the offense another special player who is hard to match up against.

I think getting GRIII and McGary to stay for next year are important. No i don't think McGary will even think about leaving but you never know. Then the 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes will go a long way in building a solid stable program.

I agree. GR3 is the recruit who I want to stay the most. (Burke doesn't count, no chance he stays)

Ricky Doyle is a good pickup for 2014. I am praying to god we pick up Booker. He's the difference between a good class and a great class.

I am really hoping Hardaway stays for his senior year. I was impressed with how he handled the ball against VCU and also in the Indiana game when they put Oladipo on Burke. I think Timmy could do a lot to help the freshman Walton run the team next year.

I like Doyle but we need to land guys like Booker if we want to stay at the top of the Big Ten.

  • Ya Booker is the Gem of the class for us. Really hope we get him. I would love for Tim to stay but I feel like him and Burke are gone. If GRIII stays that would be huge! I'm so happy that he has shown up in the tournament and played big time so far. Hope that doesn't give him the confidence to make the leap to the next level. I'll give him permission to leave if we win the dance!

Yeah before the tournament I was pretty sure Robinson would stay one more year but so far in the tournament he has played great. We will see what happens when we play a team like Kansas though. If we do win the big dance I will not blame Tim, Glenn, or Trey for leaving. But if we don't I think Glenn will stay. Trey is Gone. and Tim...I feel like it is 55/45 chances. 55 being that he goes to the NBA

Don't think UM would just go away.. but won't challenge for the B1G annually after Trey leaves. But who knows, if Burke's the only one that leaves, and everyone else comes back- UM will still be a top 10-15 team next year.. losing Timmy too and maybe GR3 would drop them to borderline 25

And let's not forget Booker also has MSU offer.. highly doubt he ends at UM

You are such a troll cope. Michigan is in much better position for Booker than MSU.

Those arent our only players though. We have a very young team and have another solid class coming in next year with guys that will be taking over for who leaves. Walton will replace Burke and we will have an older Spike to back him up. We will have Zak Irvin to replace Timmy when he leaves. Donnal could play the 4 or 5 so he will compliment our bigs very well and the fact that he can shoot farther shots means he could be a great replacement for Robinson at the 4 in JB's system (if Robinson leaves) then we have an older McGary who has shown signs of being a future star, an older Stauskas whom I think will be VERY good next year, and a more mature and filled out Caris Levert. We aren't going anywhere!!

Not trying to flame, but where will MSU be next year? I know Harris is probably gone, and Payne has seen his draft stock soar lately. Nix graduates. Who will do the scoring? I don't feel Appling is capable as a scoring threat and Valentine needs to work on his shot. The big men haven't shown me much either. I don't doubt that MSU will be a great defensive team, but someone is going to need to put up points.

Haven't you heard they will be a top 3 team to start the season next year and have the great Izzo. We all know how that turned out for them when Lucas, Summers, etc... came back and they were ranked #2 to start the season.

Let's recap UM vs. MSU over the past three seasons ...

    1. UM is 4-2 against MSU
    2. UM went 2-0 against MSU in 2010-11, which was before Trey Burke arrived in AA
    3. UM and MSU both have one B10 title
    4. UM beat out UNC, Duke, KU and UK for an elite recruit while MSU lost theirs to Duke
    5. UM and MSU both have reached the S16 in the NCAA.

I'd say things are pretty even now, though we clearly have more upward momentum (have you seen our loaded incoming 2013 class?). And Booker to MSU is a joke. You failed on Jabari Parker. You failed on Drake Harris. And you aren't even on Booker's radar. Besides, he's friends with Drake Harris and we know where he's headed. Who knows ... maybe they will be roommates?

Harris's Mom said he's coming back.. Doubt Payne leaves either (but could).. so only player leaving is Nix

Hard to say where MSU will be until we know who is coming back or not.. if it's just Nix, MSU might be #1 next year.. if it's Payne/Nix- prob top 15.. if all 3 leave, Izzo will have to work some magic for sure

Excellent synopsis of a fixed time frame Woody..

The fact is, Izzo has 6 FF's.. UM hasn't had that in 20 years. Izzo has a Title.. B___ doesn't.

MSU doesn't need a recruiting class for 2013 with everyone coming back. And so losing 1 recruit means what? Izzo can't recruit? Doesn't MSU start three 5 stars?

What makes you think MSU isn't even on Booker's radar? And when was the last time UM pulled a recruit that had a MSU offer? Weber?

Feel free to use any subjective timeframe you want to attempt to showcase UM's bball program's on equal footing.. but you and I both know which one is superior

UM absolutely is trending up.. but from the bottom- there's nowhere else to go

Like I said earlier, you'll be in for a rude awakening soon enough.
