Bama says "Teach Us"

  • Huh, both of you seem a little worried about the center of the D line, and thinking DRob might not bring his A game. The first one i understand. The second is beyond me. He seems like an ultra competitive guy. He will have had several months to get stoked over this one. Plus, I don't think anybody will be able to turn on any kind of sports related show, and not hear about this game for the entire month of August. Is it that you think he might get too excited or something?

By the way TAMU, your 1st sig rocks.

The center of the DL is where we lost our most production from on D so that makes sense that it is what we are worried about.

On Denard, actually him being too pumped and excited before games is something that has been a problem. Last year he just was kind of inconsistent throwing the football. He had some bad passing games and at times is tentative to take off running on passing plays when nothing is there through the air. We need him to play well.

We're a little worried about the middle of the lines because that tends to be Bama's strength and we lost some pieces there from last year. Denard is at his best when he's relaxed and let's the game come to him, his inaccuracy comes from sloppy footwork when he gets to excited in the pocket. If composed and relaxed then he's a nightmare. +1 Thanks man, you're one of the first to tell me that. lol

  • Finally got a highlight of (54) Jesse Williams. This is the guy that played end last year, but will be lining up across from Barnum at nose. remember he is 6'4" 320.

I also think that Demens will be solid against the run(that's his strength)

Kenny just made the list for top LBs Bama will face this year. Me thinks thou hast sold him short.

lol He's definitely a good LB, I would also say the two LB's on his left and right are probably just as good.

I watched the defensive highlights tape from last year and i am really excited about Jake Ryan. I think he is going to have a monster year this year.

  • I'm thinking about watching a UM game. Which one from last year would you say is the most hard-nosed game you played?

Nebraska was our best game overall. Notre Dame and Ohio State would be the most fun games to watch, but our defense is really bad in those games which isn't a good example.

Minnesota was also a fun game, too.

    Bkp great break down.
Let me try to answer the receiver question, as best I can.

7 Kenny Bell (Jr.) 6'1" 180 good hands deep threat
22 Christion Jones (So.) 5'11" 175 great hands electric w/ ball
83 Kevin Norwood (Jr.) 6'2" 193 good hands knows how to use size
9 Amari Cooper (Fr.) 6'1" 190 true frosh ?? they say he is "polished"
2 DeAndrew White (So.) 6' 181 good hands fights for the ball jumps out the gym
    5 Chris Black (Fr.) 5'11" 170 true frosh ??
80 Marvin Shinn (rFr.) 6'3" 193 redshirted put on good weight
81 Danny Woodson, Jr. (rFr.) 6'1" 205 redshirted

Have no clue if we will ever actually see him in crimson, but if he gets his act together Cris Carter's son
    8 Duron Carter (?sr?) 6'4" 210

I completely forgot about Eddie Williams until another poster posted this...

I spoke with a friend over the weekend who first told me about Eddie a few years back and he gave me an update on where Eddie was prior to reporting. Here are the highpoints:
Some in his camp were not initially thrilled with the idea of him playing WR instead of FS. This was due to the fact that EW didn't play much WR in HS and they thought his best position to get to the next level was as a DB. However, that has changed and EW has worked extremely hard with a former NFL receiver who has coached him on some of the nuances of the position. The guy who's been training EW since his season ended also worked with former Clemson WR Rodney Gardner who was drafted by the Redskins in the first round. He says that EW is already ahead of where Gardner was when he was coming out. Says he catches with his hands much better than he thought and has also learned how to get in and out of cuts faster than he thought (apparently he says a lot of tall, long striders have a hard time dropping their but so they can explode out of their cuts). He's a legit 6'3 and while he doesn't have blazing speed he has great football speed. Raved about his athletic ability. He also must've said the phrase "high football IQ" more than anything. He stressed that. Also talked about EW being a high character guy that took coaching tips very well. Lastly, he said that EW was motivated by what Cooper and Black did and was looking forward to gettting on campus to compete with them. Believes that for a guy who didn't play a lot of receiver, he has picked up a lot in a short amount of time and that Bama's coaching staff will love him due to his attitude, work ethic, and overall ability. Believes he will compete for a spot in the rotation this year with a healthy summer of coaching/conditioning. Can't wait to hear about #11 when practice starts. Will keep you posted if I hear more.

As far as my impressions, I think the difference in the levels of physicality will be the difference in the game.

I'm originally from Dallas so it's cheaper for me to go because I don't have to pay for a hotel, etc. Can you expand on the physicality difference?

From watching the gameplan, technique, and the "nastiness" of the team overall, but specifically those that are returning, I just see a pretty wide gulf between the two teams in terms of physical play. That doesn't mean "getting after it", y'all do that. Your defense definitely swarms around the ball. It is literally the physical build of the bodies on the field, as well as, the disregard for personal safety and/or bloodlust.

I can see that, you guys are probably the most physically impressive team in the country and we're not at the stage where we want to be but we'll get there.

I agree. Hoke has UM moving in the right direction, and he has them moving that way quickly. This game is huge for y'all and Hoke knows it. Not for this year per say, but 1) it announces UMs return to prominence 2) it will become synonymous with the start of the football season 3) recruits love attention, so if you are getting more attention than other places they are looking at, then they will look more at you! = more better recruits!
