Typical Michigan university blinders on, mattisons defense, well if I remember correctly he was the co-coordinator. At Florida, he served as co-coordinator of the defense with Charlie Strong Charlie Strong also served as assistant Head Coach and Linebackers coach while Greg also pulled double duty working as Defensive lines coach, but don't bother giving strong any credit, I mean after all he did get a head coaching gig. How did Meyer ever win a national championship without mattison, because he did!

Urbs has said that Mattison was critical in the recruitment of Tim Tebow and was a main reason he went to Florida.....so Mattison affected a championship by contributing to the success of the offense ironically.

And yet your future oline shows no promise. Maybe you guys will switch some of those DE's into OT's

glad to see you guys are sooo concerned about our o-line, never heard anyone of importance quoted as saying o-lines win championships, yet on many of your boards, you guys seem to have a fascination with our o-line.

And Urbie fired the architect behind those defenses (Heacock) and replaced him with a guy who oversaw a steady deterioration of the defense over four years at an ACC basketball school (Withers). Gotta give Urbie credit for thinking outside the box. No other coach in the country would have come up with that genius move.

almost as good as rich rod firing ron english bring in his people to run the vaunted 3-3-5 defense right?

Thank you Im all for freedom of speech and even a heated conversation is fine, but to come over here and be disrespectful should not be tolerated. IMO. I have had a good time the past week with bama posters coming over and discussing the upcoming game. I dont even mind the trolls or flames too much, but if someone takes it too far then they should not have the right to post here.

lol is this serious? It's become a common cliche that games are won up front, as soon as any coach or skill position player worth his salt is asked about an offenses success, they point to the line.

But hey, I mean, he was only a legendary NFL coach, what the hell did he know? shrug

"The Game Is Won In The Trenches!" - Bill Parcells

The Jets have ignored building their offensive line play and it shows! Upper management and coaching staff have to take a big hit here! It's not like they were over the cap and couldn't sign players!

Or when Brady wouldn't do any photo-op without his O-Line... Gisele put an end to that, but he stuck to that for the longest time. You always hear of QB's buying their O-Line watches and stuff too.

you honestly think roh, ryan, kovacs and countess trumps simon, hankins, bryant, roby and shazier????

dont take my word for it, ask unbiased fans or read any publication out there regarding talent...

osu has the best d in the big ten (maybe, tied or second to msu) and is top 10 nationally....

what can i say, i was wayyyyyyy wrong!!!!!!

however, i am still very happy, i mean cmon the bucks are ranked 7th and are undefeated....

i thought we would be 6-1 with a loss to msu and finish 10-2 (losses to whisky and msu)...

    took that like a champ.

what if you get rodriguezed and your D just keeps sliding year after year like ours did? ahhh, that would be great

    lol,

i honestly dont know what to make of the d's collapse...

the d line and secondary are playing good, but the lb's are J.V like, at best....hell, even our fullback has been thrust into the lb position....

our d/c fickell, who is a nice guy, is in way over his head and will be demoted or fired after this season...

thank goodness for braxton and the offense for keep bailing us out....

its funny though (and ironic), when we had tress, i would curse and scream at the tv for the boring, low scoring offenses put on the field, now we have the guy that brings points and yds to cbus but i'm screaming at the tv for the friggin d to stop somebody, anybody....

oh well, whats ur prediction for ur msu game?

i think u guys get em this yr, but closer then the spread...

I have to hand it to you. You are one of the more civilized OSU fans I've seen. A good sport. Not only do you admit you are wrong but your sentences aren't filled with profanity like so many of the Bucknuts posters. I do believe your d will get better. There is a huge difference between what Ohio can recruit for defense over what Michigan could over the RR years. Ohio won't be battling basketball schools for 3 star recruits. Even if Ohio had the worst defense in the nation you will still fill your roster with plenty of local talent. It shouldn't even take a good defensive coach to fix things with the talent that arrives there. Unless Urban suddenly decides he wants the 3-3-5 and uses a bunch of undersized defensive backs to defend big ten football. I'd think it would be difficult for any DC to duplicate what RR did. Maybe the plan was the more the other team scored, the more chances the UM offense would get to score again. The 2010 Wisconsin game was the showcase for how well the 3-3-5 can work in the big ten. The Wisconsin rb's were bigger than 75 percent of the players on the Michigan defense.

I'll be at the game and expect it to be close. 24-14 after Michigan drives the ball late in the 4th to tack on a field goal and put the game away.

I think your defensive line will emerge as one of the best in the nation over the next couple years, and your secondary will also be very good, but the LBs are going to remain the weak spot. As it is, Shazier is the only LB even worth having on the field, and it's asking a lot to have two high-quality LBs emerge next year from your 2012 class. The lack of success in top LB recruiting in 2013 is going to hurt too, since there aren't really any fallback options if multiple kids from the 2012 class go the way of Curtis Grant.

Anyway, I expect the OSU D to get significantly better, but there will still be growing pains until OSU recruits/develops enough solid LBs, especially next year with the loss of Simon and Hankins (assuming he goes pro). Losing your best DLs, coupled with the lack of a MLB, spells doom for the rushing defense.

FWIW they don't have a single LB committed to the 2013 class. They've whiffed on Smith, Anzalone, Gedeon and McCray so far. They still have a shot at Mike Mitchell, but landing him is far from a slam dunk. AFAIK he has yet to even visit Columbus.

Arguably, Tyquan Lewis might play some OLB, but yeah, they've whiffed on everyone else. (Smith, Anzalone, Gedeon, McCray, Matt Rolin, Deon Hollins, Yannick Ngakoue, Dorian O'Daniel, Peter Kalambayi, Courtney Love). I think Mike Mitchell is the only LB left that they've offered who hasn't committed elsewhere.

The silver lining with this is that once their defense gets up to standards, Braxton should be gone, even though the D should be pretty good his senior year
