  • Per WillyWolverine's suggestion, I started this thread so that we could have a list of all the confirmed visitors.

As new names emerge, I'll add them to the OP.

I'll break it down by class (2013/2014).

    No problem.

If you (and others) see/hear new names just keep adding them to this thread and then I'll update the OP.

Fuller said he is coming back this summer, but I don't think he ever confirmed it was for the BBQ. I hope he does so he can spend as much time as possible with the rest of the current commits.

He said he's coming this summer and that he wants it to be for the BBQ, but he's not sure if it'll work that weekend

  • Anyone know what is being served at this BBQ? I'm hankering for a good one and wouldn't mind crashing the party biggrin

Also, while on visits, what does Michigan show recruits as far as facilities go? I'm interested to learn more about your programs both academically and athletically.

They're taken on a tour of the athletic facilities and academic institutions, just like every other school. Our most impressive things during tours that are always brought up by recruits are the academic talks given by Sheri (I think?) that just tells how supportive the academic staff is and how elite the education is at Michigan. Recruits also love our facilities, as they are very modern and awesome. Huge weight room and practice facility.

Then they all sit down with individual sessions with our coaches. They get to sit with their position coach, their coordinator, and the head coach. They usually watch film of the kid and of Michigan players at his position with the coaches telling the kid what they like about him, what he should work on, what Michigan does, etc. Then Hoke talks a lot about the history of Michigan, what it means to be a Michigan Man, and what it would mean to wear the winged helmet.

Basically the same with every school ever.

  • Yeah that sounds pretty identical. I remember seeing the board that was created that had majors of OSU and UM football players. Do you know how accurate that was? I would imagine that the players he selected were freshman and sophomores as general studies is obviously more likely to be a major in those years, like our "exploration." But I just find it hard to believe with the academics of Michigan that more student-athletes aren't in more difficult areas of study.

How long has the "Michigan Man" thing been around? Was that created by ESPN or has that been a common term around the program?

  • The Michigan Man b.s. has been around a minute, but strongly resurfaced during RR's tenure. And by "b.s." I'm not talking about the standard. I'm talking about it being used as a divisive tool.

I think it's Shari Acho who does the academic tour. She is like the unsung hero of recruiting.

    Edit first part: I'm dumb

And the board was completely BS because he basically only counted your walk-ons and reserves and didn't do that for us (IIRC, it was something like that but I don't feel like looking it up). I couldn't care less about that, but I know that all of our players have tons of support and it's very easy for them to get jobs in whatever they want to do. We have engineers and business school students who are part of some of the toughest programs in the nation.

Yup, that's who I'm thinking of. Tons of recruit rave about her. And the iPads.

  • Thanks Kenetic.

We're getting iPads here as well. A few of the students were complaining because the Lantern (the student newspaper, but not for long) printed how much it was going to cost Athletics to pay for the iPads. $400,000 is the budget for them, and a lot of students would hope for that to be aid and were saying how it was unnecessary to buy iPads for all of the athletes, but when other programs have it, it's just one more thing they have we don't. I think Nebraska has iPads too..I don't think our students understand that Athletics donates about 20 mill a year to the university. Anyway, I didn't think that the majors board had a fair sample of your team and that's why it was so skewed.

If I were a student athlete, there's no doubt in my mind that I would ask to be redshirted and find a way to injure myself to get a grayshirt as well and get in a very well respected program. Become a doctor or an engineer or something prestigious. Wouldn't mind having 6 free years of college since I'll be up to my neck when I finally graduate here.

Michigan has legitimate shots at 7 Rivals 100 guys right now, which have Michigan in their top tier. I consider that very good.

I take offense to anyone labeling it BS (but maybe I'm just misinterpreting the above posts).
