B1G Tourney: Michigan vs. Wisconsin Open Thread

Penn State was a really bad loss. They played a bad game, shots didn't fall. Wisconsin went inside where they had the advantage. Step away from the computer for a couple hours and relax

I'm gonna have to go do the happy dance or something haha

And LOL @ people bagging on Jordan Morgan. He played just 8 minutes.

By comparison, Stauskas played 35 minutes and went 1-8 from the field, 0-4 from deep, and had 2 turnovers.

Why do you think he only played 8 minutes? Unless there's some unknown injury. He can't catch the ball or make lay ups right now. And his interior defense was sorely missed down the stretch.

My point is less that he's a tough guy and more so that you're a keyboard warrior.

Okay your missing the point. We just lost so sorry if im hurting your feelings by calling this team weak. Anyone who has watched this team play all year can see that.

You guys realize that if we change the outcome of 2 specific shots this season, we'd be the B1G champions and in contention for a #1 overall seed, right? And that this is still the same team that started the year 20-1? Yeah the team is spotty and inconsistent, but it's also capable of greatness. We have as much talent in anyone in the country. Nothing is guaranteed, and obviously 3 seeds lose early all the time, but pretending like we "can't" go on a run and saying things like you're not even going to bother watching the tournament, or that you "hate" this team, is simply ridiculous. Amazing how quickly fans can get spoiled. A lot of you are 10-20 years older than me and actually attended Michigan when the basketball teams were *actually* bad and no one gave two shits about them even in Ann Arbor...and now you're whining about this team? Puh-lease.

As a NY Giants fan, I'm a big believer in the Big Tuna's famous saying "You are what your record says you are."

Yes, this team could've been outright B1G Champions.
Yes, this team could've been the #1 seed in the B1G Tournament.
Yes, this team could've been in contention for a #1 seed.

    But it isn't.

Michigan needs to work on fundamentals, improve team cohesiveness, and get ready for the NCAAT. If this team makes a deep run, then it will be remembered for what it accomplished at the end and not everything it didn't accomplish in the middle.

    Style of play imo.

Wisconsin has bigs that can come out to the perimeter and shoot 3s. That's the type of versatility that makes Wisky difficult to defend. Morgan isn't suited to contest those perimeter shots because he'st not as tall as Horford and McGary.

(Sidenote: Mark Donnal is similar to Wisconsin's bigs in that he can play in the post and shoot from the perimeter. I'm excited to see him play for us.)

I don't disagree with any of this.

But there are people itt acting like this team is actually bad, saying we have no chance, saying they hate the team, saying we're gonna lose in the first round. That's absurd and those people need to take a step back and get some perspective.

lol I'm not missing any points. I also think Morgan has had a terrible last few games. But that's due to a lack of confidence. I know who he is as a player.

I won't however go as far as calling him a "big for nothing pussy." That's my point. There's no need to take it to that level especially when, like I said, you'd never dream of saying this to his face.

Funny I was thinking that exact same thing in regards to Donnal. This team is missing that kind of hybrid big man who's both big and athletic enough to guard a Ryan Evans.

if a foul was called when Craft got raped and if Harris didnt throw the ball away for MSU that could be two losses. I't can go both ways. Look I'm not calling you out for being super optimistic. sure I'm happy this team isn't the worst in the big ten anymore. I expect that though and expect them to great.

Oh I think your just being a little easy on the guy. Saying that its just a matter of lack of confidence that is a joke. He has been the same player for the last 3 years has not gotten any better at all. Look im sorry to call the guy that but he just plays soft.

These are all really fair points. It does go both ways and when you have a preseason top 5 team who starts off 18-0 you'll have high expectations. I think we all just forgot this is a young team playing in the toughest, and probably best conference in America.

I think this is a Sweet 16 team, but I hadn't said that itt. Literally the only thing I've said is that we won't lose in the first round and have a chance to make a run. That's "super optimistic" now? wut?

Good post and that is exactly what I am suffering from.

@ inuyesta I'll retract my statement of hating this team. Honestly though man, I really do hate all aspects of the way they play the game of basketball. The offense they run, there lack of any kind of post presence, and the defense. I grew up playing a completely different way. It's hard for me to accept.

That's why I hate these threads after a loss. To say definitively that this team won't make the sweet 16 without even seeing who we'll draw is crazy. However I am surprised to see how fast people have turned on Beilein.

Now Jordan Morgan, he deserves plenty of blame. Wisconsin doesn't score all those points in the paint if he's on the floor. Unfortunately, catching the ball and making lay ups are holding him back right now. And that's a serious statement.

My issue with Coach Beilein comes from watching a guy like Stauskas do absolutely jack crap 80% of the time. AND THAT'S BEEN THE CASE ALL YEAR!!!

If Stauskas is open, he can hit the three. But God forbid anyone covers him. He won't do a damn thing to get himself open. And his defense is infuriating. That hasn't changed one iota all season, and for that, I blame the coach. Hell, if Stauskas gave the appearance that he was trying harder, I would credit Coach B. But as it is, the kid jogs around like he has been all season and yet he's still on the floor.

    What a disheartening loss.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

I agree but we would have to play Miami in the sweet 16 and that would be a lost for sure.

    rabid,

    way to stay optimistic!

i am not that big of a hoops guy, but i've watched enough to see that anything can/does happen in the tourney...

there is no clear cut, unbeatable team in the country this year and everybody has some weaknesses...

    best of luck!

Duke with Ryan Kelly seems like the only borderline unbeatable team. The Blue Devils are undefeated when he has played a game.

I'll save u the time. Duke and Indly will play for the NC with Duke wining it all. No one will be able to match up with Dukes line up of Mason Plumlee and Ryan Kelly.
