Gardner is used to coming in for 1 play or series every time Denard gets banged up. About that rule, I think I read that there is also a 10 second run off if it's an offensive player [late?] in the 4th quarter. It's also a dead ball at the spot.
The scenario they gave was a running back losing his helmet at the 1-yd line on his way into the endzone with :08 left on the clock, the ball is spotted at the 1-yd line, there is no TD, and the game is over because of the clock runoff.

So i was watching media days and saw the rule changes and the one that caught my eye is a player must sit out one play after losing there helmet. Does this apply to qb's too if so that's very unfair toask your back up to come in for one play and too field a game snap
