    roflmao
A buckeye demanding class from another fanbase. That right there is downright hilarious.

OSU just released a statement that nothing happened that would make him a booster so idk what to believe. I believe my friend thought he sold the pervert drinks but then again, it was a very busy night in Columbus the night of the Spring game and the bars were packed. He said he served the dude but it would be hard to remember someone in a bar when it was that packed and he didn't know who he was at the time so idk. If something more would have happened, OSU would have reported it to the NCAA. They aren't messing around with any of that stuff since TatGate. But even if this is true, this happens all over the place. It's just a big deal because people are watching us so intensely. People are delusional if they think that big name recruits and college players ever pay for drinks when they go out to bars anywhere. They're like celebrities in the college towns and everyone wants to hang out with them. I've been at the bar with Offutt and Taylor from OU, and with Dion Waiters at Cincy. People are offering to buy them drinks left and right. It happens everywhere, including Michigan.

Every time OSU gets caught doing something out of line the knee jerk response for OSU fans is "everybody does it". Looks like that demeanor is not only upheld by the fans as The University is getting in trouble more often then a teenager with that same attitude. Notice we are not practicing to long anymore because every infraction is very serious at UM, seems like at OSU it just means they weren't trying hard enough and that's why they get caught.

  • So ohio was tight w/ a perv... it was more than just impressionable kids because a few of his followers were high ranking ohio employees.

ohio claims that everybody does it.

ohio has the largest fan base in the country.

Anzalone was gonna leave anyway, and is replacable.

    Did I cover everything?

Yes and no. Some programs are culturally more open to these types of problems than others. If you told me that Denard Robinson and Roy Roundtree were hosting a pair of 17 year old prospects Spring Game weekend and they took those prospects bar hopping, I would be very surprised. And introducing them to middle aged "superfans" who spend the night buying them drinks? No, I just don't see that. The OSU/Waugh situation clearly is not on the same scale as the Miami/Nevin Shapiro situation, but it's the exact same sort of culture (and the same culture that led to Tatgate, Bobby D and Dennis Talbott). It will be very interesting to see if Urban punishes a single player who was part of that evening's activities. Does anyone at OSU think they did anything wrong at all?

Drinking is what everyone does on every recruiting visit. I didn't take a single recruiting visit to a school where I didn't drink (and I took quite a few to quite a few different schools). And Ohio State didn't introduce him to anyone. He approached the kids and had been doing so on his own. It was in no way set up by the university and there were no university officials involved. It's irrational to assume that the university should be able to control who approaches kids, at night, when they go out. It's people attempting to turn it into something it's not.

Yeah I see someone trying to turn this into something it's not right here. Because it's not ok for current players to be taking 17 year olds to bars and meeting up w/ a convicted sex offender. This same convicted sex offender met w/ current players the next day at Chipotle... so to act like he was some stranger popping up w/ a tray of drinks is comical. Since this happens at every school i'd be interested to see some of these pics since it's so common.

How do you explain several of your staff following the guy on twitter? Whether you want to admit it or not, the guy was a lot closer to your school than your typical fan.

Are we really getting indignant over underage drinking? Honestly? And I'm not sure I took any pictures on my recruiting visits at night, if you know what I mean. But anyone who has played a sport at the division level knows that, when on recruiting trips, you drink and party.

And, in fact, it is basically a guy popping up with drinks. These kids didn't know him. And while some of the players knew him because he had done it before, you can't expect the university to keep track of every player that converses with the students when they are out at night. Your fan base is just trying to make it into an issue it's not.

Honestly, there are a lot of explanations for that. One certainly is that they were really good friends. Sure, I acknowledge that. But it's also possible, as it happens all the time on twitter, that he simply asked them to follow him and they did so. Lots of fans do that. But what we do know for a fact is that the officials didn't attempt to put them together. He approached them when they were out at the bar. Certainly the staff can't be held responsible for screening every person who goes to the bar and attempts to meet players and recruits.

Come on... You truly believe that they followed the guy on twitter, he was at the bar with your recruits and then he had meals the next day with your recruits and it's all just a coincidence and he's just some random fan that your coaching staff wasn't aware of? You'd have to believe your coaching staff is full of clowns for them not to know about a guy hanging around them like that. What's more likely is they knew about him but didn't know about his past, why's that hard to admit?

It's not just underage drinking either... if they were in a dormroom then that's quite common. But to be parading around town in bars at 17 years old and taking pictures without any worry is something that only happens when you're in that kind of culture. You wouldn't have taken pictures, because you would have feared repercussions which is something these kids obviously weren't worried about.

He was friends w/ the older Heurman brother, and they were meeting there w/ Anzalone and Bosa... it was planned, he didn't come out of the woodwork and start hanging out. If these kids would've been in a dorm party or going to basketball games and participating in the Maize Rage this wouldn't have happened, but instead they were 17 and going to bars at risk to run into whatever weirdo's may surface.

  • AD...everything you say is correct until this meal at Chipotle, which has to raise some eyebrows. I don't and the Anzalones do NOT hold OSU responsible for the actions of this guy. I think what their position is, whether or not they were already looking to decommit, that they sent their son to Columbus and the picture arises. I think they got spooked, and probably spooked enough to warrant their second thoughts on their initial choice of OSU.

Can I ask, how did this even come out? Like how did they finally piece together that this kid was a pedophile and hanging with recruits? Did something happen or did they see something?

I think it's unlikely, at least thinking back to my experiences, that they knew anything about him. I get that we want to throw stones but just thinking back to my experiences in college I don't think our coach would have known. You have to remember this guy lives in Kentucky, not Columbus. It's likely he isn't around often. So, when he is around, he goes and makes friends and attempts to drinks. I'm sure they didn't know his background either (why would they check). Also, we both know it's common for people to ask others to follow them on twitter. People do it all the time.

Listen, it's certainly possible that someone was aware of him as well. I fully admit that. But it seems unlikely to me, as a former college athlete, that they were.

It's my understanding that actual OSU boosters reported this guy to the compliance office.

As far as chipotle. I'm not sure. From what I heard this dude offered when he was out at night and the kids agreed. Not that it was pre-planned. But it's all rumors when it comes to that at this point.

The dude offered what? To pay for their Chipotle? Or just to meet them there?

I think I did twice. Once at Kentucky and once at Coastal Carolina. Coastal Carolina was, by far, the craziest recruiting visit I went on. To this day I sort of regret not going there lol.

Asked if they wanted to meet there and they agreed since he bought them drinks, I believe. But again, all speculation and rumors at this point when it comes to taht.

A booster is buying underage recruits drinks at a bar?

A booster is pretty much any fan on the planet.

To say he's not a booster shows a very poor understanding of the term.

It is a violation for fans/boosters to buy recruits drinks at a bar. Honestly...I would think an Ohio State fan would be well-versed in this stuff by now.

Wrong. Booster represents the athletic interests of the university. Link for you: http://basketball.about.com/od/recruiting/a/Are-You-A-Booster.htm

This guy has no connection in any sense outside of fandom.
