Amateur OSU writer snitches on Michigan, gets stitches

  • It's funny that a site like chatsports can get this kind of stuff out there. If I remember correctly, that's the Ace Williams site. That idiot had an article listing every somewhat questionable tweet that Michigan commits made and compared them to the Yuri Wright situation. The crap "published" over there is despicable.

As for that OSU writer>>> fail

Exactly Eifert attended the same school as Jaylon Smith, but it's still a secondary violation. Players won't suffer any repercussions as they shouldn't.

I know it is minimal but what exactly does happen?

Agreed. Who cares if someone congratulated him. Personally...I feel like Twitter is just the same as email except it's an open email. Send this guy to the guillotine

  • what is the problem here? This is something that goes on everywhere. Since when is congratulating a new teammate a violation? It's a congratulatory remark, not an attempt to recruit him. If this tweet came from a normal fan and not a player, would you even be hearing this censored right now? I can't count the number of times I've seen congrats on committing on twitter. Just plain ridiculous. If the violation is not one of violence, theft or drugs, leave these kids alone. As far as the writer crap goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity. That's what the say anyways.

The rule is no longer strict, and was always stupid. This is a non-issue.

  • It's a secondary violation, which is pretty much a joke to the NCAA as long as you report it. However, once you report such a heinous act you get to pat yourself on the back over how your school runs a tight ship and are as clean as any.

  • Ugh. Can't believe ESPN picked this up. What a joke. Hope those OSU tweets get looked into, too. What goes around comes around. Ultimately no big deal, but so obnoxious.

  • I fail to see where the snitch got "stiches". I think the snitch got a ton of media attention, including ESPN and the AP who picked it up. I don't see where OSU's player is getting busted in return, and even if he does get busted, it's sort of like trading one pawn for another in a chess game... how the hell does that help anyone? "Stiches", really? Sorry dude, I would love to believe you, but I don't see it. I think the snitch got the better of us and you're just reluctant to admit it. I think your "stiches" conclusion is predicated on the false assumption that OSU will get busted but that UM won't, and that just isn't true, because even if Rountree had a "prior relationship" (which is highly debatable, given the 5-yr age difference), he's not the only UM player alleged to have committed the violation.

Well, let's take a reality check on saying "what goes around comes around", please. This is one rogue writer from some two bit site who in no way is affiliated with OSU, the OSU community or its fan base.

That's like some random guy in the subway stepping on my shoe and me retaliating by going around and stomping on the feet of everyone on the train, because, hey, they all share that train association.

I, for one, certainly wouldn't want to see Michigan or any other school get sanctioned for something so ridiculous and I don't think most true fans of OSU would either. I'd rather beat Michigan on the field fair and square.

Mark my words, though, Twitter is on a collision course with the NCAA at some point. If I was a recruit I would shut down my account immediately or at least set it to private. If I was a college, I'd strongly advise any commits and players to shut down or make their accounts private, as well.

He is an OSU fan, that much is obvious. What constitutes a fan as being part of or not being part of a fan base? Are the numerous OSU fans that go on Twitter to talk trash to, and even cuss-out, Michigan commits excluded from this fan base? Just wondering what your take on it is because people see this stuff and associate the individuals with the fan base. The way I see it is the ones doing this kind of crap are actually hurting their fellow fans. It just seems like rational OSU fans like you are in the minority.

  • There's a lot of nerds in the sports writer business that like to be negative and hound these kids about stuff like this. I understand that the kids should be smarter and know they can't tweet at recruiting prospects, but some of these sports writers are friggin relentless!

He probably is a fan. I'm using affiliate in the stronger sense of the word here to mean that he has no formal association or contract with the university or any sort of fan base collective. In other words, no-one from those groups is telling him to go out and write this article. Its not like he's an Al Qaeda operative being sent in by Gordon Gee to blow up the Michigan football program. In my mind, he's not even acting like a fan but rather just looking to score a few cheap points in order to earn a name for himself and a dollar or two.

And sure, there are plenty of fans of OSU, and other schools for that matter (there definitely have been cases of Michigan fans Tweeting OSU commits like Dunn last year for instance), that do all sorts of things that give their fans bad names, but those aren't selected representatives of the fanbases. They do hurt the reputations of their fanbases, but I think unfairly so. Social media really compounds the problems, because the most obnoxious of the obnoxious get their voice. There literally must be millions of Ohio State fans out there but maybe 20 of them are out there disparaging recruits on their websites. I don't go around thinking, "Well, the Unabomber went to Michigan so therefore all Michigan people must be mailing bombs to people", and hopefully you don't apply the same principles to your thought process regarding OSU fans in general.

You might perceive that OSU fans have more of these ultra-fanatical fans than other schools, but also keep a few things in mind:

    1) We are your arch-rivals so naturally the rhetoric is going to be heated. No doubt the OSU fans feel the same way about Michigan fans. That being said, I think the Michigan fans who come to the Bucknuts site and present solid, fair handed arguments like native tsun and neoavatara actually get treated decently in general, though probably get hit by flames now and then. My experience on this Michigan Board has been fantastic and I really appreciate the hospitality.

    2) There naturally are going to be more ultra-fanatical OSU fans you encounter here on 247, b/c OSU is the largest school in the world for starters and appears to also have the biggest 247 site by a wide margin, so the starting population base is very high. Even if you get the same percentage of crazies as other schools the absolute numbers will be larger.

Those who treat us with respect on here, get treated with respect (as evident by the multiple fanbases that are pretty much regulars here like star (ND fan), SpartanRocky (MSU fan), and the few buckeye fans as well).

However, MSU has the largest fanbase on this site (not by much however, as BNs and BOL are close), they just don't have the most paid subscribers (Bucknuts does have that, but they switch with BOL alot).

    Yep.

The MSU site was an indy board (like Bucknuts I believe?), but they were never into recruiting (I mean, have you seen the classes they have? lol). tRCMB is basically a giant off-topic message.

BOL has to be a pretty boring site for recruiting, since Bama seems to get who they want as of late. The most exciting part about that site is the pictures people put in their signature areas. Whoa, Nilly!

The rest of the B10 really has crumbled in terms of recruiting. I can remember when teams like IL used to be able to put together some decent classes and get some real top players. No longer it seems. PSU probably will end up with a half decent class, though. Wisconsin's class last year was just shocking on the downside, especially given the team's success on the field, though they did lose a few coaches. I'm surprised MSU can't get a few more decent players, given the quality of coaching actually is pretty high.

Yes, BuckNuts used to be independent, though went through a long series of partnerships that didn't work for one reason or another. The nice thing about being on 247 now is you can easily visits sites for other teams.

Yea, I hardly ever even lurk on BOL, incredibly boring to me.

The only other Big Ten sites I ever post on is the Iowa off-topic board (good peeps there) and the Nebraska board (have been posting there for months now, even before the Michigan site came here).

I have been here since the very beginning (subscriber to the Tennessee Titan site), and the follow board feature is probably my favorite. So easy to jump from board to board.

I was on the old pre 247 BuckNuts board, as well, though took a long hiatus from posting, now am back. I wish, and my wife REALLY wishes, I could stop viewing and posting on the boards cold turkey, but am sadly addicted. I've only posted on the OSU and Michigan boards, though check out others occasionally to see if there's any info on key recruits.

I take it you live in TN?

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the "follow board" feature?

Nah, I live in Ohio, just a little south of Columbus in a little township called Pleasantville.

The "follow board" feature allows you to add a certain board to your list of boards you follows, and allows you to jump to each board you follow from the little drop down back in the upper right area of your screen.

I am following around 10 or so boards lol.

"The Music City Miracle" - Tennessee Titan...

The Music City Miracle is one of the most controversial plays in the history of the NFL. It occurred at the end of the Wild Card Playoff game between the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills on January 8, 2000 (following the 1999 regular season) at (what was then) Adelphia Coliseum in Nashville, Tennessee.
