Amateur OSU writer snitches on Michigan, gets stitches

  • Today, a writer from ChatSports.com attempted to turn current Michigan reciever Roy Roundtree in for a potential minor NCAA violation. His offense? Tweeting his congratulations to Michigan commit Mike McCray on his commitment to the Wolverines.

McCray and Roundtree both grew up in Trotwood, OH and attended Trotwood Madison High School. Unfortunately for the writer, it's going to be nearly impossible to prove no prior relationship existed, and in a smaller town like Trotwood, it's improbable that McCray and Roundtree didn't know each other.

Regardless of how much backtracking and damage-control this writer does, he's a snitch.

    Well, snitches should get stitches.

    So, here's his stitches:

While this is a pathetic attempt to get the Michigan program in trouble, we aren't guilty of this violation; however, Ohio State is.

Current Ohio State cornerback Travis Howard did the same exact thing as Roundtree with current OSU commits Cameron Burrows and Eli Woodard (as pointed out in the comments of the article). However, Howard is from Miami, FL and didn't have a prior relationship with either recruit.

A photo of the tweet is below (because the website is acting up, here's a direct link).

Too bad 1 out of the 10,000 buck posters will see it that way. The rest will say we deserve a bowl band, loss of scholarships, etc.

Nah, just wanted to document that comment before the author of the article deleted it.

The OSU compliance should probably shut this guy down before he brings the death penalty upon his beloved Buckeyes.

According to McCray (Circa Feb. 22), Roy and him are "good friends".

  • Did that OSU writer really imply that they had to be teammates in order to have a pre-existing relationship (where he pointed out that McCray was a 7th grader when Roy was a senior)...?

    Ah man.

    Kenetic

  • According to the update of the article, good friends or not it doesn't matter it is a secondary violation. However I am curious now as the Buckeyes players were guilty or such the same thing and they are under probation from the most recent bans due to Pryor. Honestly the rule is stupid, but wonder what happens regarding secondary rules violations while under probation.

  • Just an FYI nothing should come of this on either side IMO. Really just dumb. Like can't give jelly for bagels in training table dumb.

Not if Roundtree and McCray were acquainted before McCray started 9th grade classes. If McCray went to a Trotwood Madison game and told Roundtree "good game" afterwards, that could constitute acquaintance. If McCray went to a summer camp hosted by the high schoolers or was somehow involved in the program (which is highly likely considering who his father is), they'd be acquainted. That's how stupidly ridiculous these accusations are.

O I know they changed it, thus admitting to how dumb a rule it was. That was just an example of another rule that was ridiculous that immediately came to mind.

    Ok understandable. Still stupid.

Only it does matter and it isn't a violation.. A pre-existing relationship means there is no violation.

Yea Scout beat you to explaining it to me above. I still think this whole ordeal is a dumb way for the guy to try and get some press. Course he basically stuck his foot in his mouth in the process.

    Why click on anything chatsports?

Because his snitching led to NBC picking up the story (because ND got in trouble for Tyler Eifert's recent tweets). The author should not be rewarded for opportunistic mud-slinging.

Michigan player latest to commit NCAA no-no on Twitter? | CollegeFootballTalk

Over the weekend, Ben posted on a Notre Dame football player who had likely committed a secondary violation by tweeting about an unsigned player visiting South Bend. So, of course, a member of the Michigan football program has done something similar a couple of days later.
