Alabama/ Michigan

  • I am a huge USC trojan fan, however I live in arkansas/sec country because of work. Nonetheless I need some help as to why Michigan can win this game. I will be rooting for the wolverines and I hope they win so that my coworkers can piped down. So help me what are u guys hanging your hat on an why will Michigan win. I just noticed the point spread is 12 which I think is to much. Help me and fight on.

  • I'm a life long michigan fan and for me its going to come down to two things for us to be able to pull the upset. 1) we have to stop the run-- our dline is a work in progress and a little undersized. 2) we have to come up with 3 big plays-- i'm personally thinking a breakaway possibly busted offensive play with denard taking it to the house, an interception or fumble recovery, and a big time special teams play anything from blocking a punt or field goal to returning a punt or kick for a td. As to what I'm hanging my hat on in this game well for starters its denard robinson he is the constant mismatch so with him on the field we always have a chance. The other thing I am hanging my hat on is our defense. I know our dline is inexperienced, unproven, and undersized but our back 7 is top 10 caliber in the country. I believe we can hold our own defending the pass but it all comes down to stopping lacey and that crimson tide running game.

Reason's why Michigan can win? Well, the running game will not be like anything Bama has faced since Auburn in 2010 with a dual threat QB and solid RB. Denard Robinson needs to have a good game for Michigan to win, he needs to make good decisions and attack their inexperienced secondary. Michigan also needs to plug the holes with the LBs on defense to stop the running game. Michigan's back seven all returns from a top defense last year so if they can force Bama to pass they could force some turnovers.

  • Thanks for the info. I can't wait to see Denard, he is going to be the wild card. If he has an out of this world game where he is not throwing the picks I believe in my heart of hearts they cn pull the upset. I also like your coach. Your players seem like they enjoy playing for him. How is the offensive line?

You beat Bama in the air not on the ground. We'll have to have an amazing balanced game plan from Borges.

Bama wins with their ground game. Our new Dline is undersized so it will be tough.
Look for Mattison to rotate personnel and penetrate the backfield. Need to win in turnover margin.

We'll match up much better in a couple of years when Hoke's recruits are on the field but this team will have heart and come to play.

It will be a good measuring stick for Hoke and Co.'s 2nd year of rebuilding.

we lose the best center in the country but we return a pretty aggressive group. Michael schofield and taylor lewan are absolute monsters at tackle and should be a top group in the big ten. I seriously think they will be much better then last year and will have a few groing pains with barnum switching to center from guard but that should be worked out by fall camp. Patrick omameh at guard has a ton of experience as well and should be rock solid.

also, im very excitrd about chris bryant. he should get plenty of reps and chance to win a guard spot.

  • UM can win the game because they have a great playmaker with the ball in his hands every single offensive snap. I do think we run the ball well against UM but anything can happen when its the first game against a good opponet. Im a huge bama fan but trust me down to the core when I say that , "bama is not overlooking UM by ANY stretch." We will come to play and we expect the same from UM. Good luck and Roll Tide

and believe us when we say the majority of us do not expect to win. we are a defensive line away from having a well rounded , solid team. We also realize , like you said, that anything can happen in the first game. you will have a much younger defense, but those players are still five stars lol.

Couple of really good JUCO transfers too. I believe we should win but with DR running the show you never know. Especially in the early part of the season where players arent used to game speed. DR always shows out the first 4 games of the year gets gameday and everyone else going crazy of his numbers and then slows down a bit. I really expect him to be a contained problem if you get my drift against us.

    EDIT***
Imagin me on our board trying to explain to a bunch of bama fans that theres a decent chance UM wins. Some arent liking it but I am backing it up with numbers. lol

  • We are simply a year or two away from really being at top speed. Bama is already there. I am glad for the timing of this game...it gives us a barometer of where we stand, without much to lose.

I agree with this. Even if we lose at least our guys know we won't be playing another team as good as Bama all year.

yeah i agree also. if we win, we have that win behind us all year and the rankings will favor us. If we lose, we got beat by one of the best teams in the county and it doesnt hurt much. There is zero doubt in my mind that we will be there in three years. But we have to remember that it takes time to build that depth and have it mature into upperclassmen. I can appreciate this point where alabama has gotten to.

  • Bama is a top tier team right now. Like any game vs. top tier UM will have to move the chains on third down and come up with a couple timely turnovers. I really hope they work on play action short passing for this one..Go Blue

No body thought Bama could do better than there 2008 recruiting class with Julio, Ingram ect ect. In my opinion our recruiting classes have gotten better every single year. Getting deeper and deeper with talent top to bottom with each class and filling extreme needs every single time.

UM is doing this with Hoke and I expect UM and UA to have some big battles in the next 4-5 years. No matter if its a regular season game or a bowl. You are talking about probably 2 of the best all time programs in CFB existence. USC and ND are a couple of others. Recruiting is about to become a whole lot easier for UM and I am excited to watch yall beat the dog @#$% out of Ohio State for years to come. I cant stand the Buckeyes. Most over rated program next to Auburn I have ever seen.

Many southern fans(SEC) have zero respect for michigan and our history but I have been pleasantly surprised with the class alabama fans have shown in discussions about the game. I guess it comes from both of us having tradition and a winning percentage that others cant even fathom. With that said , there will be uneducated homers from both ends spewing useless facts and unbased and irrelevant information that isn't pertinent to this game. Lets hope this thread can continue to bring solid information, and answer questions we both have.
SO lol, let me get off topic for one second and ask about Derrick Henry. If he does switch it gives us a small but viable chance at green

  • I think one of the main stats for this game is how many times denard turns the ball over. If he never turns it over or only once, I think we have a very good shot at winning. However, if he turns it over 2 or more times (which is definitely a possibility with this defense) then I doubt we will be able to pull it off.

    Bm11

  • Henry is Bama bound. I truly believe that. I think he just opened his recruitment to show respect to UGA. I think Green is a shot in the dark.

  • Thanks a'lot for the friendly banter. I really think u guys have a better chance to win than the opening 12 point underdog suggest. If my Trojans don't make it to the MNC I hope we meet u guys in the rose bowl. I will be back a week before the game, by then we will should have a realistic view of what the teams will look like. C ya and fight on.

  • michigan will lose but how can you expect them to win with rich rods recruits. michigan needs 4 years of brady hoke recruiting and all of rich rods players off the team to get back to an elite level, but if there was any chance that UM can win it would have to be denard having his best passing game ever with no turnovers cause if he cant throw like every other game then bama stacks the box and UM is screwed. denard needs over 300 yards in the air and 150 running no turnovers. the only thing we got going for us is that its the first game of the year so all those new starters on bamas defense will have little experience and never went up against a qb with that much speed and cutting ability. also michigans back 7 is gonna be great so not that worried about the passing game so it all depends on are three new starters on the d-line. so basically it will come down to denard and our d-line playing great if where gonna have any chance to win.

the funny thing is all the osu fans saying that bama is gonna crush UM and how funny it is that UM fans think they have a chance to win. well i haven't seen any UM fan yet say UM is going to win and they make it like osu can beat bama. UM will lose just like osu will lose to bama as well. anyways plus +1 to you for hating ohio.

  • Bama's rushing attack will be the key to this game. I am comfortable with our back 7 on D, but the DL scares me a little bit. Inexperience and undersized DL vs. a monster OL in Bama's, with a bruising RB in Lacey is not a good matchup for UM. If UM can get penetration into the backfield and at least change the initial direction of the play, then Michigan stands a chance. If Bama can continue to pound the ball for chunks of yards, it's going to be a long night, especially if their play-action opens up.

Denard needs to have a great game, but so does the rest of the offense. The passing game has to be able to stretch the field and keep Bama's D honest. That will in turn open up the rushing attack with Toussaint and Denard. I personally think Michigan's O will win the battle, but not by the margin that Bama' O will over UM's D.

I'm sticking with my prediction that this will be a close game, with an off-the-wall prediction that this game will be decided by a special teams TD. The margin of victory may not be within a TD, but the predicted special teams TD will change the game because of it.
