This "rivalry" has been cyclical over the past decade. You guys better hope and pray you win this year, because when Hoke's recruits get on the field in 2013 and onward, game over.

    +1 done deal

It may be a little late. We only need to fill one more position. We have a ton of national offers out. Kids ARE committing early, but its still just soooo early. We are expecting things to keep moving quickly but these sophmores in highschool haven't seen schools yet. They are in their formative stage for learning about schools. I just think it will be 6 months until we srtart getting a good feeling on who they like

LB is deep for 14' KB it'll be good for both programs. Ferns film is very, very good and it's tough to read the LB film when a kid plays mid grade competition and works out at 5 different positions on that film. What you do see is that he's without question an incredible athlete and will probably be a winner. Ratings aside he looks like a player. I'd be stoked. I'm a sparty fan and I think he looks prime. Congrats. I'd hate to see him with urb.

Dude are you serious. He has repeated time and time again, MSU is his leader now even with OSU offer. Plus MSU has made a huge impression with core6 and hes a core 6 guy. I agree theres still a lot of time left but to say he MSU doesnt have a chance is kinda stupid when were his leader. I think he chooses b/n msu and osu

+1, much respect. It's rare for a Sparty to come over here and not provoke a world war

no disrespect to sparty recruiting, but you guys don't have a lot of experience with big time recruits when it comes to breaking down what they say about your school. everything he says about msu means absolutely nothing. teams like UM, osu, ND, bama etc always have big time recruits saying we love that school. they are my leaders right now. I'm definitely going up for a official visit and then a year later they are committing to another school. trust me, by this time next year he is gonna have a top 15 or 10 once all his scholarship offers come in and msu wont be his favorite. wont even be in the top 2 or 3. putting so much on him saying msu is the leader before he even starts his junior season is ridiculous.

Good discussion. We can be civilized and talk football. Both programs have alot to discuss this year, and should see good seasons.

  • I'd rather he go to Sparty over Ohio or some OOC school. I don't want MSU getting a lot of high ranking recruits but one every so often is okay with me. It's good for UM if they remain competitive over the long haul once Rich Rod's gifts all move on.

  • Spartans have a very good shot with Clifton Garret. He's visited OSU and MSU and still has MSU out front. If they don't land him I'd be surprised.

Competition will heat up for Garret. If he makes it through the barrage of offers he will see in the next 6-9 months, then it is possible. Although, I still like OSU in this case.

We need them to be as bad as possible. Look what not having a competitive instate school gives Ohio in recruits and fan support.

  • I really don't think they'll ever be bad as long as Dantonio is there. I guess with all things being equal I'd rather MSU be our chief competition in the Legends division as opposed to NU or Iowa.

I'm not ever going to worry about recruiting with Hoke and Mattison at the helm. We will always get ours.

BTW Michigan might as well be an instate school in Ohio the way we are recruiting the state, lol.

I agree that Dantonio is an under-rated coach on this board. Regardless of the RichRod deal, Dantonio is giving MSU consistency that I've never seen in my lifetime. Obviously it's going to get A LOT harder now that Michigan is back, but there's no reason to believe they are going to fall back to mediocrity. They can still recruit as a top 30 program, and they can develop those players well enough to be a team that's consistently ranked in the 10-25 range nationally. I think we will float in the 1-15 range as long as Hoke is at Michigan (and likely beyond that), but that doesn't diminish what Dantonio is doing at a far more difficult school to win at.

Dantonio isn't underrated on this board. He just isn't respected because he acts like a douche.

Fair enough. I've been thinking about that though. I wonder if you kind of need that sort of an ego/personality if you are going to do what he's doing at a school like MSU. I mean, they've been our punching bag forever. Do you kind of have to have that "us against the world" attitude 24/7 if you are going to change the culture when your in-state rival is a mammoth program like Michigan? Somehow you have to tear down that feeling of always being 2nd best, that "same old sparty" persona that purveyed the program.

I'm more just thinking out loud than anything right now, and I don't know the answer. I can certainly see how you guys think he's a douche/has an ego/ is a crybaby, etc.

No offense but part of this also has to deal with the media in MI. I mean you guys have owned the state for a while now and MSU hast had a positive success story since the 60s (not counting the 88 season). most of the media in MI sees michigan as the goody 2 shoes, MSu as the evil little twin, and the CMU/EMU/WMU as the red headed stepchild that is completely forgotten. The bias in media was considerably noticeable, and now that MSU is doing good, they dont know what to do.

While i agree that Dantonio is kinda gruffy, but by all accounts if you meet him in person, hes the nicest guy ever. But media in michigan makes a big deal out of everything dantonio does that it makes him look evil. Cmon you cant tell me theres no bias? For the first time in ages, hes standing up to you guys, and you guys dont like it. Hes not just going to roll over and be your punching bag

  • That said, I really do think MI is back. granted last year you guys had some bounces your way, but still doesnt undermine your success. And I think hoke might just be what you need. Out of all the games we have this season, Im most worried about the game against you guys. Never underestimate a rivalry no matter how one sided it has been.

He could at least show some class like Hoke or Lloyd Carr. I'm not going to complain though. We'll get him on October 20th.
