Who’s OSU prefer between Kizer and Crest? Crest seems like he would fit better in a more pro-style or at least a more passing-oriented offense.

    Crest.

    Crest.

Do we have any interest in him or does he have any interest in us? Or is it pretty much between Kizer and Stewart for us?

AFAIK, we haven't shown interest in Crest and he hasn't shown interest in us.

But Meyer seems to be interested in also Drew Barker from Kentucky.

Our coaches are actually taking a slower (that is to say a more measured) approach toward QBs in the 2014 class.

The primary targets seem to be Kizer and Stewart. I don't know anything about Chandler Kincade other than that he visited us.

But I expect our list of 2014 QB targets to expand.

I don't think people have yet grasped how far ahead of schedule our coaches are in recruiting. It's only the middle of May 2012 and we are talking about targets that won't sign a LOI for another 600+ days. That's 20 months away.

  • Top247 for 2014 expanded to 100.

    http://247sports.com/Article/Class-of-2014-Top247-expands-to-100-73870

The Midwest does not seem to be as loaded in 2014 (as it was in 2013) based on the initial rankings.

Anyways, here's a list of players ranked in the top 100 that we are interested in:

    #1 Da'Shawn Hand DE
    #3 Jabrill Peppers CB/S
    #11 Braden Smith OL
    #13 Damian Prince OL
    #23 Malik McDowell DE
    #41 Clifton Garrett LB
    #69 Casey Tucker OL
    #78 Mark Andrews WR/TE
    #83 Drake Harris WR
    #85 Derek Kief WR
    #91 DeShone Kizer QB

    > Please note that I left off some players that I don't think we have a chance at (like Bo Scarbrough). I prefer not to obsess over the improbabilities.

    > Other Michigan targets that didn't make the top 100 cut include:
    - QB Chance Stewart (who was supposedly considered for the top 100)
    - WR Damon Webb
    - WR Dominique Booth
    - RB Jonathan Hilliman
    - RB Jamitreus Crockham
    - RB Lorenzo Collins
    - OL Jay Hayes
    - OL Orlando Brown Jr.
    - OL James Hendren
    - LB Nyles Morgan
    - LB Deon Drake
    - DB Doug DiFusco
    - DT Brandon Hines
    - DL Gelen Robinson
    - DL Sam Mustipher
    - DL Dylan Roney

Agreed... Having 3 guys that focus on DL should help out since the can spot top tier talent at that spot from a mile away.... Malik would be a great way to kick off the '14 class... But getting in early with Hand and Peppers is also a very good thing... Lets hope the DL spots in the '13 class start to fill so that the coaches can move on.

  • According to Tremendous, Michigan has offered OT Roderick Johnson from St. Louis, Missouri (W00T!).

As Notre Dame fans found out with Andy Bauer, Missouri will be the team to beat for Johnson.

Note: There is an OT of the same name and similar measurables in the class of 2013 that is currently committed to Florida.

  • According to 247Sports, Michigan has offered Jeb Blazevich - a TE from North Carolina.

  • I wonder if our coaches will show interest in Allen Lazard - a 6'4" athlete - from Iowa. Lazard plays WR on offense and S on defense.

  • According to 247Sports, Michigan has offered Michael Ferns - a LB from Ohio.

Here's his sophomore highlight tape. Looks similar to Ben Gedeon.

It's not just those 3. There's also Davonte James.

So as of right now, there's 3 LBs from Ohio + Garrett from Illinois ranked in 247's top 100 for 2014:

    Dante Booker - #19
    Clifton Garrett - #41
    Davonte James - #73
    Michael Ferns - #94

As far as I know, Ohio is showing interest in all 4. Ultimately, one or more of those kids won't be going to Ohio unless Meyer chooses to take all 4 despite limited scholarships.

Edited to make correction. Thanks TAMU.

Garrett is from Illinois but yes, the Midwest is loaded at LB next year.

  • We also won't need many linebackers next year with James Ross, Royce Jenkins Stone, Kaleb Ringer, Joe Bolden, Mike McCray, and Ben Gedeon on the team. That's six solid recruits.
