    Why does that matter?

Because that means they've had a connection to the program since they were a child and it gives Michigan an advantage in their recruitment.

I think we (as Michigan Alum/fans) like to believe we get everybody. I say throw caution to the wind folks. Until Michigan is dominating like ND and OSU at 12-0, caution forces you to play smarter in the recruiting wars.

How many times do you need to hear that McDowell isn't a big UM fan?

Here are some direct quotes from him:

“My dad got me hats and stuff, so I was a Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State fan because I played (video) games a lot,” he said.

Is it possible to be a fan of both Michigan and Ohio State?

“I do not know,” he said laughingly. “People ask me that – I’m not a big fan of any school to tell you the truth. It’s like any school is my favorite school.”

You have a valid point, but it is not the only point - or the dominant point IMO. I hope you are correct though.

He is playing the game, and nobody knows where he sits but those close enough to him. I suspect he may have knew at one point, but now is more open to other schools.

There are kids that grow up legit fans of Michigan like Morris... McDowell isn't one of them. We have a solid shot at him, but it's not because he's been a huge fan since childhood.

Agreed. I think your Shane comparison is spot on. People need to quell the euphoria, and not count the chickens before they are hatched - so to speak. M.McDowell has two 12-0 teams courting him, as well as UM. I guess I am more reallistic. Regardless if his parents made him wait, he has waited, and has not named a leader.

Drake Harris. MSU has great one. Love to steal though.

I understand your doubts, they are not as irrational as some of the doubts people have with other recruits. With that said, I would have more confidence regarding McDowell if I were you. As you said, he's not a slam dunk. But if today were NSD he would sign with Michigan. He has not publicly named a leader since strongly hinting we were it earlier this year, but there are some sources who feel very confident we land McDowell in due time and as a result I'm also confident. ND will be our primary competition for him. I really just don't see Malik picking ND over Michigan when it's all said and done.

    Something like 212 yards.

EDIT: Thought you said what his stats were, not how he looked. My bad.

Back in June I watched DCD 2014 QB Tyler Wiegers complete 21 straight passes against D1 talent in a 7on7 championship

  • TomVH is very high on Wiegers as well. He has seen Wiegers live multiple times and is as impressed with him as nearly any other QB.

Harris vs. Webb would be fun to watch.

Also, don't get your hopes up on Harris. He's all MSU, primarily because of Izzo. But don't worry too much, he'll probably only play basketball there.

I hope that's the case because I agree with #2. I think that Harris could be a flat out stud-WR in college.

Yeah, it's awesome when you go to his profile. Fred Jackson is recruiting him for UM, Chuck Martin for ND, Tom Izzo for MSU. lol

    Take it from Drake himself:

"Coach (Tom) Izzo and coach (Mark) Dantonio have given me the leeway," Harris said. "Once I get there I'll probably start leaning toward football."

Michigan State-bound Drake Harris committed to football, could be 2014 Mr. Basketball | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com

Harris, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound Grand Rapids Christian receiver, could be the states the early favorite to win the 2014 Mr. Basketball Award.

If that's the case, then you should be worried.

No sane kid wants to play a 6-6 team/program unless they have some type of attachment to the institution or coach.

A lot of guys always start with both, and I'm sure Harris will as well, eventually they usually all pick one or the other. Or if they stick with both they wind up not reaching their potential in either sport.

I don't understand why this would worry us. It's a problem that he may like MSU? Most everybody thinks he has more potential on the gridiron, and MSU is in on some very talented basketball recruits. I sure hope he focuses on our crappy football team.
