  • What type of player is Baze? top 100 or more like 3-4 star-ish? I see he's listed at 145 pounds.. He's got some serious bulking up to do.

He played all last year injured and as you mentioned needs to bulk up a lot, but he still has interest from a bunch of big time schools so they definately see potential in him. I think he will be a low 4 star, but we will see better after he goes through the camp circuit this summer. I think Doug DiFusco is about ready to break out though, he was just an MVP at a pretty big combine and he is going to a bunch of big camps/combines (2 or 3 NFTC combines and a rivals 5 star camp) in the next two months.

  • DeShone Kizer has said in an interview with Tim Sullivan that he is a big time wolverine fan not good for the browneyes. Would like everyones input on ranking the following 2014 QB recruits.........DeShone Kizer, Chance Stewart, and Chandler Kincade

They all seem like 4* prospects so I doubt that we'd be able to pull more than 1, so I'll pick Stewart because he's the local kid. Kizer is more of a dual-threat and Kincade seems to be a similar prospect to Stewart talent wise and in that case you normally take the local kid.

I'd be ok with Chance or DeShone. Chance fits what we're doing more with the pro-style and I really like his size, but DeShone is a great athlete and would be a lot of fun to have in the pocket.

I would be ecstatic with either one, to be honest.

    Chance Stewart: UM or MSU
    DeShone Kizer: UM or OSU

Either way, we take a recruit from one of our rivals and give one to the other.

Agreed but I think Stewart fits our offense a little bit better than Kizer. I think Kizer is a better overall prospect but not for what we plan to do on offense. Would love to have both.

  • You guys really think DeShone is a dual threat QB I mean he is 6'4" some sites have him listed at 6'5" and from the game that I saw him play in he is an athletic pocket passer the reason I asked is because I havent seen any videos on Stewart or Kincade but have been hearing an awful lot about him

Kizer is definitely a dual threat, Stewart is similar to Ryan Mallett with a little less arm strength and I need to watch more film on Kincade.

  • well it looks good that we will land one of them and then maybe the kid from CT in 2015

  • Personally I think they go after Kizer and Stewart pretty hard, but only take one. Kizer is going to be one of the most explosive QBs in the class and I wouldnt neccissarily call him a dual treat, he told me he prefers to be a pocket passer and he only runs when he has to. Stewart is the better passer right now, but his mobility is a question. They both plan on camping at Michigan this summer, so it will be a great way for the coaches to compare the two.

  • It will be interesting to see where those two end up in the national rankings. 2014 QB recruiting should be fun.

  • Old, but Kizer is on it and a few other kids we offered.

thank you for your input I was really borderline on whether he is a dual threat QB never cared much for dual threat when I hear it I think right away an athlete playing QB or a running QB but Kizer seems to be able to throw a good ball and is pretty acurate

  • I *strongly* disagree with those that think Chance Stewart is a better fit than DeShone Kizer for the system that Al Borges wants to run.

Moreover, I disagree with those that think Kizer is a dual-threat. He's not. If anything, he's a developing QB that happens to be surprisingly mobile.

Would any of you categorize Troy Smith as dual threat? I wouldn't.

But I bet many here remember how difficult it was to sack Smith (especially on key downs) and how amazing he was at salvaging broken plays.

I've attached a highlight video of him. See for yourself.

  • I'm going to have to agree with Frank C here - everything I've seen indicates that Kizer is, and will be, a strong pocket-passing QB who just happens to be able to move too. Would anyone call Shane Morris a dual-threat? Probably not, but despite his pocket-passer forte, he can also move surprisingly well. If given the choice of QBs with relatively similar arms, I'll always take a QB who can move a bit over one with Ryan Mallett/Tom Brady/Drew Bledsoe mobility.

To me doesn't matter, Thompson would have come to UM if he got that offer. He visited 3 weeks in a row last year.

From my update on DeShone this week. I asked him if he would be more inclined to look at a school with Keith or Jayme committed to it, and he said "Yes, I would love to play at a school with either of those guys, but since Keith is on the same side of the ball as I am, that connection (wanting to play together) will always be there". http://thisismichiganfootball.blogspot.com/2012/04/deshone-kizer-update.html?m=0

Isn't he the recruit that openly and frequently lobbied for the Ohio offer?

  • That is surprising, guess he wanted the home state school. ND thought he was going there. Also we have a lot of OL that like UM
