Coach Brown did a write up, that when Borges went to visit IMG to see O'Connor throw for 30 minutes, that he didnt even talk to Ward. I remember reading that Borges didn't even talk to O'Connor either, but only observed him. I think this is due to NCAA rules with how the coaches can contact 2014 kids. Anyways, Ward was disgruntled about not even seeing/talking to Borges, but it may be a misinterpretation of the rules on Wards part. If anyone can confirm the lack of communication by Borges because of NCAA rules, and what that rule(s) may be thank you.

    Hey thanks, I didnt see the update about Denzel Ward on Coach's sight{which is quite nice btw}

I think Denzel Ward is going to decommit soon, but hopefully not.

    I think you're right.

  • I really do hope Ward winds up in this class because he's got just a heap of potential...but OL, and specifically OT is far and away the one position I have the most faith in our coaches' ability to land elite guys for in 2014. A decommit from Ward would not really concern me at all.

This is how I feel. I would love to have Ward, but if there's one position where I don't mind a decommit, it's OL. I'd much rather have Ward decommit than Ferns or, god forbid, someone like Deveon Smith.

    Agree on all counts.

  • Looks like Michigan just offered 2014 DB Erick Smith out of Glenville. They take from our pipeline, we take from theirs. (Now if only we could somehow flip Lattimore...)

I really don't understand this viewpoint. After everybody freaked out about it, he tweeted that he was commited to Michigan and said Go Blue or something after it.

Maybe the fact that Ward found the need to transfer to IMG in Bradenton (Florida) without even telling the UM coaching staff .. and then tweeting non stop pro UF stuff (I cannot confirm, only repeat whats been said on this board and another board) ..

    shrug

  • I'm not worried about Ward one bit. His commitment kind of took me by surprise and I'm not to sure he was ready to commit. If hes stays cool but he appears to be a big project. If he leaves we will have other more polished kids to take his place.

I'm just wary of everybody freaking out since they did when Dawson left and then he ended up coming back in the end.

As opposed to tweeting he's uncertain of his commitment to Michigan? Or "sorry, but I can't say Go Blue".

    Use logic, tweets mean nothing.

That's fine, Poggi will recruit him to UM. Or vice versa. Or something.

It's not statistic when it's an opinion...

While I agree with not taking a QB just for the sake of taking one, I don't really agree with the general sentiment about Bellamy.

First we are saying Gardner sucked because he had a bad spring game last year and didn't look great when he got 2 plays a series in 2011, then turns out he's pretty good when given 4 or 5 consecutive games to play and practice as the starter. Now we, as a fanbase, are lauding him as the next great Michigan QB for the next two years.

Then, at the same time, Bellomy has a decent spring game - to the point where the coaches make him QB #2 and the fanbase was pretty much in agreement. Then, as a RS Freshman, he gets in for his first non-garbage game action: 2 quarters against the team that eventually won our division at their place down by 3 or 6 or whatever points without a run game to help him. After the game, we find out from Hoke that Bellomy has an undisclosed injury and after the season we find out our backup for Gardner was Kennedy. So something was wrong with Bellomy, but now he is a terrible QB and can never be serviceable as our QB (all while most of us continue to joke "with our line and our RBs, we don't even need a guy that can throw that well").

It just seems like opinion of Bellomy went from "potential future starter/good backup" to "Nick Sheridan with a scholarship" in 2 quarters at a top-20 team during his RS freshman year with no run game (while potentially injured). While he might not ever be a great starter, I think him never being useful is way overblown. He was a fricken freshman QB and we're going to run a west coast offense - they don't all need arms like Shane.

I have to agree with Kyle in saying that people should have known Gardner had it. Those who doubted his ability based off the spring game are the same who are on suicide watch everytime there is a RUMOR of bad news.

I said it in 2011 and was glad that I was proven right this past year...Michigan's best offense was with DG at QB but with Denard on the field.

  • Since the '13 cycle is more then likely done, who does everyone think our next commit will be??
