I ask because I remember reading Scout's post BBQ interview with Parker Westphal in which Hecklinski JOKINGLY suggested to the young man that it was too early to commit. Westphal had no plans to do so this soon anyway. It seems as though people have taken that particular snippet from the interview and have just decided to run with the meme that the coaches don't want kids committing this early. I don't recall reading anything else that suggests the coaches are actively discouraging '14 recruits to hold off on committing.

Ha ha. In my opinion? This kid is 235, he is going into his Jr year. I would love to see him take over the mike position from bolden at a svelt 260-265. That's my idea of a mike. He has a frame to add weight at 6'3" without losing his speed. Just picture this massive white beast roaming sideline to sideline(not that him being white has anything to do with anything). He could grow an inch too!

I agree Ferns will be a good add but 265? Man, unless you are a freak of an athlete, a MLB won't carry 260-265 and be effective. Urlacher is the only guy I can think of that can carry that weight and be fast and agile enough to be a mlb. At 6'3 250 is plenty, look at bowman out san fran or david Harris

I'm thinking in terms of pure awsomeness! There are plenty of linebackers though that carry 260, I saw a few enter the draft around there last year. Although most are listed lb and play rush in a 3-4.
We shall see what he does, but he def has plenty of time. He has 4 years before he should be asked to contribute at all with the guys in front of him.

Yea, the only pure mlb I remember getting drafted early was the kid out of Boston college, and he is likely 6'2" 240. The two bama backers are 265+ but as you mentioned they will be more rush backers. Checking NFL.com, the only 260+ lbs were the bama guys. Pure awesomeness will come from dudes work ethic and like you said, we will see.

It seems to me that its been a while since we had a linebacker that we didn't need to add much weight. Seems like guys were coming in around 210-220. The fun part other is he has athleticism and is already 235 with two years of highschool left. The other guys we much less coming IN to college. The kid looks lean at 235. Hopefully he comes up to weight gradually and doesn't lose much.
