2013 season

  • I'm not trying to look ahead too far right now, but how do you guys think Michigan will do? Is it possible to go undefeated?

It's tough to predict the future, especially with possible injuries and early departures, but let's just assume that Taylor Lewan returns and base it off from what we see this year.

This is what I believe may be the starting lineup for next year, subject to change of course.

    Offense:

    QB: Devin Gardner
    RB: Thomas Rawls
    WR: Jeremy Gallon
    WR: Amara Darboh
WR: Drew Dileo/Laquon Treadwell (If he ends up at Michigan)
    TE: Devin Funchess
    LT: Taylor Lewan
    LG: Kyle Kalis
    C: Jack Miller
    RG: Michael Schofield/Joey Burzynski
    RT: Erik Magnuson/Michael Schofield

    Defense:

    DE: Frank Clark
    DT: Quentin Washington
    DT: Ondre Pipkins/Jibreel Black
    DE: Jibreel Black/Mario Ojemudia
    OLB: Jake Ryan
    MLB: Joe Bolden/Desmond Morgan
    OLB: Desmond Morgan/James Ross
    CB: Ray Taylor
    S: Thomas Gordon
    S: Jarrod Wilson/Dymonte Thomas/Marvin Robinson
    CB: Blake Countess

Now on to the schedule and my predictions

    Central Michigan- W

Notre Dame- Toss up, Notre Dame currently has the advantage, and that defense is legit. If their offense continues to improve, Notre Dame could win with ease, but if Michigan's offense improves like it is expected to, Michigan should win this game. You truly never know with a Notre Dame-Michigan game.

    Akron- W

    @UConn- W

    Minnesota- W

@PSU- Should be a win, never know about playing in Happy Valley, regardless of sanctions or not

    Indiana- W

@MSU- Should win, could easily be a toss up though, their defense is always good, but their offense is awful.

Nebraska- Toss up at this point, especially is Taylor Martinez is able to play at this level again next season, but Michigan does have the advantage of playing them at home.

@Northwestern- W, but after last week this game could be close again next year

    @Iowa- W

Ohio State- I'm going to label this as a toss up right now because I'm not sure how good they truly are this year. They can score points with ease, there's no doubting that, it's just their defense is terrible and I'm leaning towards Michigan being able to stop them a few times and pull out the win.

What do you guys think? Is there an outside shot at going undefeated? Or will Michigan drop some of their toss up games?

  • Not sure Lewan will be back, but otherwise agree. Think the Defense will be significantly better.

As for game picks, I think that is the case. ND is tough to pick...not sure if they are going to be significantly better or not, they lose a lot of talent this year. Nebraska too. OSU should actually be better next year.

  • Won't be 3 WR's in a pro style....you're missing a starting FB. Prolly end up being Kerridge at the start even tho I think Shallman takes over.

I would say no because theres too many gaps in the talent pool on the depth chart, but looking at how lucky ND and Ohio have been this year, anything is possible.

  • I'm pretty confident that Lewan will leave. That will mean we have to replace 4/5 OL.. Yikes.

If they step up, we have a good chance of making some noise nationally. If they don't, we'll struggle.

I will say that our schedule sets up nicely for an undefeated run.

I think playing ND that early with all the new OL guys is going to be really tough. This won't be popular but i would say we are looking at a loss in that game.

I would agree, but the recent history of this game says that no one knows what will happen lol

Plus, I'd never bet against Hoke at the Big House.

I have to look more at who they're losing and who's coming back, but it's gonna be a very tough game.

A lot of the freshman could play this year, but the coaches want to redshirt them. So those guys are capable of playing but they are being saved for 4 years hopefully.

2 thoughts on this. First, I always take the approach of waiting to see them play before i get to excited and believe they are good. Second, when it comes to offensive line play, playing as a unit is huge. Having so many new guys on the line usually means it takes a few games to gel no matter the talent level.

Notre Dame is losing a lot they lose 4 offensive linemen, one of the best tight ends in the country, top running backs. On defense they lose Te'o, Motta, another LB, and a d linemen, Louis Nix III could also leave early. I'm really not concerned about ND next year they lose a ton of talent imo.

Well, the freshman probably practice together everyday, will practice together on the same line through spring and fall camps, and will have a easy game against Central Michigan before they play ND. They should have a good amount of chemistry going for them when ND rolls around.

Practice is much different than a game. shrug Just going off my years of experience watching football and seeing teams go through massive changes on the OL.

I know, but it won't be like they haven't played with each other at all like it is when a lineman gets injured and someone has to come in and replace him in the game.
