    QB: Gardner
    HB: Derrick Green***
    FB: Shallman
    TE: Funchess
    WR1: Gallon
    WR2: Darboh
    WR3: Chesson
    LT: Lewan
    LG: Kalis
    C: Kugler
    RG: Schofield
    RT: Bosch

    *** not committed

  • I don't think we will see Green start at RB right away. I think Hoke will give Fitz another shot depending on how healthy he is of course. Kerridge is the guy at FB right now. I thought the coaches said Schofield was staying at RT?? If so I'm guessing Bryant wins one of the G spots. Dileo will be #2 or #3 imo.

I also believe that hoke will give Fitz another shot, but still giving green snaps in the game (if committed) kind of how Bama used Yeldon. I do really want to see Smith though.

Oh yea easily. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith redshirts this year. I'am hyped to see Smith but we need to have a lil seperation in the RB I think

  • Yeah no way is Shallman starting as a Freshman. i bet he redshirts. I dont think Bosch starts either. Out of the true freshman, i think Kugler at C is the best option.

So mine would look like this:

    QB: Gardner
    RB: Hayes/Green/Rawls
    FB: Houma
    TE: Funchess
    TE2: Williams
    WR1: Gallon
    WR2: Dileo
    WR3: Darboh
    LT: Lewan
    LG: Kalis
    C: Kugler
    RG: Bryant
    RT: Schofield

My biggest thing, again, is Center. other then that i think this lineup looks pretty darn good. and having guys like Mags and Braden that could take over cool

    tbo989

  • C- Jack Miller

If Kugler earns the spot, we are in trouble. It would not be ideal to have a freshman calling blocking assignments.

RT- Schofield, unless he moves to G, then Magnuson/Braden

If Bosch earns the spot we are in trouble. Plus, when Shane takes over, RT will be key, so get Magnuson/Braden some snaps.

    Forgot Braden!

Shallman is not and will not play fullback. This has been stated numerous times. Houma might be that guy and you'll likely see Khalid hill get some run with him being an Hback. I agree with you on green. Even with a healthy fitz (which isn't promised ), I think green would start from day 1 if he performs up to expectations. Schofield will stay at RT, at least for now according to hoke. Thus I have Bosch or Bryant inside. With bars at center.

    Luger

  • I think Toussaint likely starts at RB, with Drake Johnson and Green pushing him for snaps.

    inuyesta

  • Why do folks think fitz will start? Just curious because:
    1. Coming off an injury
    2. Was recruited and is clearly a more spread option RB
    3. Didn't demonstrate the ability to run out of pro sets consistently
    4. Hasn't always been praised for his blitz pickup
    5. Have you seen green?
    6. Coaches do not hesitate to play the freshman over seniors.

    Luger

  • I don't think there's a chance Hoke starts three freshmen on the OL (including 2 true freshmen). I'd guess a line of Lewan/Kalis/Miller/Bryant/Schofield seems more likely.

Yup. Also, when I talked to Kugler a while ago, he actually WANTS to redshirt because he said he wants to continue to learn the center position and wants to be able to come right in and play at a high level. I'd be really surprised if he wasn't redshirted.

    I think he'll start because
    1. At this time last year, we all thought Toussaint would likely be headed to the NFL after the 2012 season. There was a reason for that; Fitz is damn good when he's on.
    2. He has incumbency, which obviously doesn't mean **everything** but it means something
    3. Starting Fitz gives Johnson/Green/Hayes/ Smith more time to develop and in the case of the freshmen saves them a year of wear and tear before they have to be thrust into that role.
    4. He has a full offseason and then some to come back from his injury. Plus, it's 2013, not 1962; guys are much less likely to have their careers destroyed or even severely hampered by these injuries.
    5. If the coaches have any sense, they'll be running some pistol/Nevada formation read-option with Gardner at QB, making Toussaint's experience in the read-option game valuable. (Note: This reason would be higher, but I'm not convinced the coaches have the requisite level of sense).

That last part I agree with 100%. I don't see why we didn't use it more often last year. shotgun and MANBALL running game would've been the perfect transition to Borges's offense.

Yeah, this is what I predict we'll see - although, if Bryant isn't 100% recovered, we could see Burzynski/Bars in there.

I heard all of the incoming oline, besides Bosch will be redshirting.

Shallman is not and will not play fullback.

Shallman mentioned playing tight end, fullback, and runningback when he gets to Michigan in a recent interview. I don't know if Borges is pitching the U-Back as a combination of those positions, or if he is literally going to take a shot at any of those positions.

I don't think you can categorically rule out Shallman playing fullback, in any case.

I really like the coaches' commitment to strong character, creating a family atmosphere on the team, and doing their utmost to make sure each and every player becomes a Michigan Man well-positioned for success on and off the football field. I really like how effective the coaches have been at recruiting. I think what they've done with the defense is damn near miraculous.

But as for their ability to design, implement, and lead a dynamic offense that fully utilizes the talents of the players that they have? Their capacity to recognize when it would be prudent to adjust or abandon what they know for something new, and then actually make that adjustment? Well, I'll believe it when I see it. The South Carolina game was certainly encouraging in that respect, but in my opinion the coaches at least partially squandered Denard Robinson and frequently showed a stubborn devotion to ideas/plays that simply did not and could not work with our personnel. I very much want to believe that they'll do more justice to Devin Gardner's skill set and design an offense that looks like what the Seahawks/Niners/Panthers/Redskins are doing (generally, I realize that those offenses are different), but I'm not convinced that will happen. I fear that Borges will see he has a QB who can throw and simply skip to the same offense he would run with Morris or Cornwell back there. I hope I'm wrong. We'll see.

I fully expect this to be what Michigan's starting offense looks like at the beginning of the 2013 season.

Damn I forgot about the Threat. Yeah I'd swap him out with Chesson. He has a knack to find a soft spot in a zone, or just get open and then has probably the best hands on the team.

The u back is not your traditional full back, and shallman wont be used in the traditional sense, that was more my point. It's very similar to an Hback but with more running responsibilities than say receiving (Hback). There are some fullback keys he may have responsibilities for but it's all based on scheme.
