Everyone wants (expects?) to land Treadwell, but no one has mentioned North or Massington. Is that because they are further down your list or you think we have little chance? I am very high on both and think we have a good chance at both, especially if Massington does not get offered by UT.

I like both North and Massington quite a bit, I just like a few other guys better (i.e. Treadwell, LaRue). Distance also plays into it, and I believe the general consensus seems that North stays south (though I am not sure if that is based on anything legit or not).
My WR preference (of guys that I have seen highlights on):
1. L. Treadwell
2. S. LaRue
3-5 (no order): J. Quick, D. Daniels, M. North
6-8 (no order): D. Allen, R. Foster, E. MassingtonHaven't seen any highlights on D. Stringfellow, M. Ateman, or U. LeMay yet.

Maybe I'm overthinking things, but it's possible they are trying to send a message. We went after several high profile Cali OL they wanted last year and ended up stealing one away. This year, we go after Cravens and Mathis and, suddenly, they are hot and heavy after Isaac, Dawson and now LTT. Sort of, if you are going to mess around in our backyard, we're going to mess around in yours. Or I could just be making this all up in my head.

MrWoodson is correct in my opinion.
I've seen coaches do this before as a way of saying "back off" to another program.
You have to understand that USC wants to rebuild and maintain a monopoly of California talent before expanding nationally. Right now, USC is be facing stiff competition from 2 programs (Oregon and Washington w/ the addition of Lupoi to Sarkisian's staff) on its own turf.
USC doesn't want to deal with other historical powerhouses (like Michigan) in its own territory while having to go mono-a-mono with conference foes for supers.
But this move is nothing but a miscalculated/uninformed gesture in my opinion. I'm not sure that Kiffin is aware of Coach Hoke's "committed MEANS committed" rule. Moreover, if LTT can turn down Saban right after he led the Crimson Tide to a second BCS National Championship, then I think LTT can turn down Kiffin who has not (yet) won anything of note.
