  • As it does seem the coaches are considering a 6th OL depending on how things shake out..now my opinion is that if Dawson were to take the #5 spot and things shake down into us taking a #6 i would like it to be a Tackle..so i ask who of the candidates have the potential at Tackle..Dennis Finley ?

But seriously, this is the most recent list that I know of:

December 14: QB commit Shane Morris DB commit Jourdan Lewis OL commit Logan Tuley-Tillman LB commit Mike McCray DE commit Taco Charlton OL commit Kyle Bosch TE commit Jake Butt LB commit Ben Gedeon DT commit Henry Poggi DB commit Ross Douglas RB commit Wyatt Shallman TE commit Khalid Hill DT commit Maurice Hurst 2013 OL Kenny Lacey 2013 OL Cameron Hunt 2013 OL David Dawson 2013 DB Gareon Conley (maybe) 2014 DE Lawrence Marshall (maybe) 2014 DE Malik McDowell (maybe)

There are probably a couple more that I missed, but that's what I know so far.

    OL Kenny Lacey
    OL Cameron Hunt
    OL David Dawson
    OL Naty Rodgers

get your popcorn ready. fight for the last spot.

p.s. All of you guys talking about a 6th OL; it ain't going to happen. we will not take 6 OL. hoke already told the OL commits that he will only take 5. he will stick to his word

  • I think Lewan would be making a mistake not returning. He has all the physical tools and makes great plays sometimes, but he's just too inconsistent to be drafted highly. If a 6th OL is the best player available I'd go for it, but if the 6th is the 6th best of what we having coming in then someone else is a better alternative. Certainly a 6th OL is way behind LM III, Green and Conley. But Tunsil...hell yes.

  • I see everyone's point's about taking a 6th. o linemen but I would not be surprised if they did take 6.

Both Hunt and Lacey project as tackles, and I'd rather have them.

I am still feeling good about DG and LM III right now. I cannot see the coaching updates at TN and AU overly exciting DG right now. I thought I read LM III was rescheduling the USC visit, but was still planning on re-scheduling it - but I could be wrong. What I do like (about him cancelling right now) is that USC had some other commits showing up that day, which would have worked him during the trip.

I know I'm just a big rain cloud sometimes, but I cannot see Green being overly excited by Derek Dooley or Gene Chizik either. He says the coaching staff is important, but I am betting it isn't that important.

I am not sure I agree on this one. I think DG is careful enough to understand he needs a coaching staff to develop his power game. He has to trust (wherever he goes) the specific staff can get him to the NFL as a 1st rounder. I like our chances, based on recent coaching hires at other schools.

Could still be wrong, but have seen nothing to make me think otherwise - yet. NSD always brings +/- surprises as have seen.

We are having some decent walkons to pick up a little slack. 5 is the most I would go for any OL class. 6 would be to many. You need separation between years. After 2014 it won't be a worry anymore.

You're assuming there isn't any attrition from the OL. We lose a couple guys to transer, injury or just giving up football and the OL numbers are low again. I would rather get the numbers up at OL and figure out the separation with redshirting, attrition and not giving out 5th years in the future.

If there is some freshman attrition, I would agree with this. However, if its juniors and seniors leaving, replacing them with a larger class of freshmen just opens you up for the same problem in 4-5 years.

The OL numbers are so low that I could see a 6th OL being taken, but I'm not expecting it.

Exactly...it is a numbers game. You take 7 one year, and two the next...you will be in trouble.

Eh, taking another OL would allow us to bump one up to be in the same class as the rest of the RS Freshmen, while redshirting the other 5. Our coaches were planning on having 5 in last year's OL class anyways.

If we take 6 this year. that would be only 12 in 3 years. That averages out to 4 a year. I don't see the problem.

  • Taking 6 OL would not hurt my feelings, but if I have to trade Green or LM III i would take them of course!

If I could have 1 of those 2 or both and an OL that would be nice!!

Well, yeah. If I had to quickly rank tiers, here's how I'd see it:

    Tier 1:
Green, Treadwell, LM3, one of Dawson/Hunt/Lacy/Rodgers.

    Tier 2:
    Crawford, Moss, Reon Dawson.

    Tier 3:
    A 6th OL.

Hes being projected in the top 15 by nearly everyone.

He had a great year and if he wants to go, nobody can blame him one bit

I agree. He is graduating this year too right? If so he would have his degree and be a top 15 pick.

He's prolly gone, but if he did stay he'd have to see his draft stock go up with so many great OT's going in this one.

It all depends on how he does vs. Clowney in the bowl. He owns Clowney...he is gone. Clowney owns him, he may come back.

If Lewan's projected in the first two rounds then he by all means should and probably will go. In my unprofessional opinion he had very high preseason expectations, but did not live up to the hype and did not have a "great year" as did no one else on th O-Line. Great plays...bad plays...too inconsistent. I think he'd benefit from another year in college, but he should follow the big money if it is there. But enough about Lewan. This conversation only belongs on this thread in the context of whether we take 5 or 6 OLs. If he goes then 6 probably makes sense.

If the new number is 26, I could see a 6th OL spot. But I would rather try for another WR besides LT. There isn't much for Shane to throw to in 2013. Either 2014 has to be great or Darboh, Chesson, Butt and Funchess are it.

I think most people would agree with that. I think darboh and chesson can be excellent though. Im really excited to see these guys get out there. In fact, im pumped about what they can do.

Not sure its going to be Shane next year, IMO .
We do need some depth at WR so i would love to see another one added if we go with 26.

    So
we are at 22 correct? think so!

    Green
    Dawson OL
    WR
    LMIII or Dawson CB
    Hunt OL

4 of these six would be a nice finish maybe I will call coach today and tell him to take 28.biggrin
