2013 Recruiting Hotlist

I think when he said Leader he meant like leader of this recruiting class, and Shane is without question the leader of this class

I agree but let's remember, being the leader of a recruiting class carries about as much weight as...(insert whatever ridiculous comment here).

I am just stating that Shane telling him to contact the coaches wouldn't make a difference if they brought him back or not.

I don't think you have a handle on this situation.

    1. I'm not taking this personally. Don't mistake me having a strong opinion for taking it personally.
    2. I was a student volunteer on the team during the 2006 season.
    3. I have every right to call him a headcase when I have access to info (from those that know Dawson) that you don't.

Frank...typically I agree with you. However, in this case, you do seem to be taking it personally. Calling a 17/18 year old young man a "headcase", a "butthurt punk", etc. are not the ways of someone who has a "strong opinion". Those are insults of someone who is upset over it.

As fans of Michigan, we should be above stooping down to the level of insulting a young recruit who we all know made a mistake. The mistake he made should be punishment enough and should not warrant additional insults on a recruiting board. Just my opinion...

  • I think DD's situation is worse than a kid who makes a mistake. Telling continuous lies is much worse than making a single mistake.

Seriously? Each team has a LEADER(s) - aka Captains. You honestly think the coaches do not ask the opinion of their 'stud' future QB?

    soapbox

This is foolish...yes, teams do have leaders and I bet Shane was a great leader for De La Salle. But to even think that he is the leader of Michigan (as the original post stated "the LEADER shows the stance of the team") is ridiculous. The leaders are Denard and Jordan. Not Shane. And now, being someone who has been in the college football game, coaches are not going to cater to their recruits wants over what it best for the program. Like I said, this is foolishness...you're better than that!

  • We have a whole David Dawson thread that you can rehash this all in. Quit diluting the 2013 thread

Disagree. You are implying coaches do not ask committed recruits (especially one as highly profiled as SM) their opinion. I find that highly unlikely. I am not saying they base a decision on it. However, I do believe (in certain circumstances) they ask opinions.

The point I have made is they can ask Shane's opinion but he does not speak for the team (that he is not even on yet) or have any say in the final decision. That is for the staff to decide.

To even make the comment that Shane's stance is the stance of the "team" (your words) is ridiculous. He is a stud recruit, but then again so was Henson...yet no one on the actual team questioned that it was Brady's team.

A compatible analogy to your idea that "Shane's opinion would influence the final decision" would be a situation where the parents allow their child to make the financial decision for the family. Hole and his staff being the parents and Shane being their child. Hoke and his staff will educate themselves and make the decision...whether it is what Shane wants or not.

    Wonder what exactly it is.

The only thing that would qualify as "good news" is him deciding not to take visits and firming up to Michigan.

It would be alright news if he eliminated tOSU though and it was just Oregon or Michigan.

  • Well, I should say it could be trending in a positive direction.

100k% true. But it was a foregone conclusion he was gone, so ill take it.

  • It fits with what Rivals reported on Conley last week, that he *wants* to take visits, but would be likely to stick with Michigan anyway. Obviously that might not work since we don't know if Michigan is willing to let keep his offer on the table if he takes visits.

Really hope he sticks. One of my favorite recruits in this class.

Wonder if they have given him the chance to play offense? I think it would be a good idea considering its not looking good with treadwell and it seems we might have better options at defense back.

I'm pretty sure it was reported by someone here that the coaches will give him opportunity to play offense if he would like.

  • Wow thats great news on Conley. I hope it stays that way. As for Dawson, I'd be happy to have him back in the class if the coaches think its a good idea. But I am concerned with his recent behavior and I would rather him go to one of our rivals if he is going to be poison in the locker room.

One more thing, is this class still projected to be 25?

I believe so. We needed more attrition to reach 25.

There will be some. As one of the other posters said before, I was wrong on who I thought wasn't going to get a fifth year. However, we all know of 1 LB and maybe 1 other that won't come back. Plus if Lewan is going anywhere in the first round, he is going to go. He is one injury away next year from making $0 in NFL if he decides to come back.

Well, it helps us out if Oregon keeps stringing him along. They've been talking to him about being close to offering for months, they visited in school and didn't offer, now they want him to visit, but can't guarantee him an offer. So he basically has to decommit from Michigan and hope they find a spot for him in 2 months.

He still might end up taking a look at OSU though, so who knows. I'll be happy if he's not in Columbus this weekend and comes out for an official visit with all the other commits on Dec 14th.

  • Man I'm just saying, if I was in Dawson's position going through all he's going through, and I came on here and just saw pages and pages of people talking about my mind state, deeply analyzing my tweets, and calling me a head case, I'd be beyond creeped out.

Here's how I feel. Im a Michigan football fan. I want to see the best players play for Michigan so that they beat the crap out of the B1G every year. You can save all that moral BS unless it starts turning into the Auburn of the north. As far as I can tell UM has very high morals and guess what? 18-23 year old kids still get in legal trouble and break team rules every year. I'd love to see Dawson come back because he looks like he can play guard or tackle at a high level for 3 years. That's it.
