If I were the insecure one, it would be me regularly going to other teams' boards trying to stir up controversy. But it's not me who does that. It's you. I'm sorry your team has been irrelevant for most of the past 20 years. I really am. We had three such years under RR and it was hell. I can't imagine going through that for two decades. But in light of ND's abject failure as a program for what is most likely the majority of your life, you really should try to enjoy your unusual success this season. Enjoying your season would be a much more positive way to spend your time than constantly trolling other teams' boards trying to tear their programs down. Michigan is doing fine. We had a great season last year and are having a good one this year despite a couple of unfortunate losses. And we are recruiting extremely successfully, among the top handful of programs in the country, and that bodes very well for the future. We are happy. You should try to be too.

That would be counter-intuitive to our coaches policy.
When our coaches stop recruiting prospects and deny those like Anzalone from visiting, it's because we already have commits for those slots. Coach Hoke preaches to these kids to not commit unless they are 100% committed and understand the no visit policy. Therefore, when they commit, he puts his trust into them. He then reallocates his efforts to recruiting kids for positions where slots are available. If we let Anzalone visit with a full LB haul, that would mean Hoke sees the potential for our commits to go elsewhere. Knowing they can't visit elsewhere, he doesn't have to worry about that. Unless he sees smoke, he won't act like there's a fire.
Obviously there is always potential for decommitments. In that case, our coaches will pick up their phones and start to recruit guys as we've seen recently with O-Linemen. They trust the Michigan brand and the targets' interest to fill the void with those who want to attend U of M. The coaches also know who is out there, who has high interest in Michigan, and who they could get if need-be (see Dennis Norfleet). Building relationships with recruits is a big part of recruiting, but the Universities themselves unquestionably carry more weight.
One example to sum this up is Ethan Pocic. He had high interest in us before we filled up. If for those 6 months our coaches continued building a relationship with him, as opposed to using that time to further strengthen relationships with realistic prospects and our current commits, it would be ineffective all-around. There is a slim chance that these kids decommit. Losing 1 or 2 out of 25 each year sounds pretty safe to me. The coaches are playing the odds and trust those who gave them their word.
I agree with the policy wholeheartedly.

Solid answer, but with the way recruiting has been sped up I expect a lot more decommits than say 5-10 years ago. Just seems like you are limiting your options and then are left at the alter with your plan D or F as opposed to B or C. So staying in contact with Pocic behind closed doors is fine, but bringing a kid in for an actual visit is misleading?

you're something else! Love how I asked an honest question and you label it as trolling. You have to have the personality of a brick wall. I'm happy with where ND is at and I like what the future looks like, but thanks for the concern. Sorry to the rest of the Michigan fans. I think the rest of you guys are great posters and very knowledgeable about the game you love and recruiting.

Not in question per se; just that he was told by a reporter for Scout that Michigan has offered. Usually he'd find out from the M coaches or his own coaches.

Essentially yes. The coaches have a no visit policy for the players. Thus for it to be a two way street, once a position is closed they don't allow a player from that said position to visit UM. The coaches don't have a rule against players still listening to coaches other than UM, the only expectation is for them to honor their commitment. Again it goes both ways, the coaches will stay in contact with other players (evident by the Khalil Rogers rumors that were occurring this summer). It's not misleading because the coaches are upfront with all parties and its just good practice. Decommitments happen to all schools, not just ones with a no visit policy. I agree it may turn a kid off being told not to visit and then trying to back in once a spot opens up. But you also have to consider that some understand the business and thus are still open to UM because of our prestige like you see with Tunsil and The Rodgers kid in Maryland/VA. The plan " c and d" as you phrase it is more a testament to so many kids being committed to other schools and 8 times out of 10 will honor their commitment. ND was burned at the alter big time last season and I don't recall any top tier guys taking their spots, it's just part of the business b.

Interesting SI article on the struggles USC is having this year. Hard to understand why so many elite prospects, who can go anywhere and play for anyone, continue to put their trust in Lane Kiffin.

I think people are taking Stars question wrong. In my opinion, I would rather the coaches didn't actually close a position and therefore would continue to let top prospects visit. What I mean is I would rather the coaches take another LB or OL like O'Daniel or Pocic rather than thinking we have to have 3 WRs in this class and end up with a second tier player at WR. With 85 scholarships there is not some set number of guys you have to have at each postion. There is some wiggle room for the coaches to work with.

Unless the player is cant miss, it makes little sense to overload on position just to secure a commitment from a top rated player. In the case of LB, specifically WLB, look at who is on the roster in Morgan, Ross, ringer, Poole, and now Gedeon. Same with OL, the coaches are content with 4 but wouldn't mind 5. The coaches like what the see at tackle currently on the roster, thus they can afford taking LTT as the only true tackle with Bosch, and Fox as potentials and pursuing tackles in the 14 class. But bigger than that we have depth issues in the secondary, at WR and TE that had to be addressed. I would loved to have Pocic but if it meant sacrificing a position not met then I'm with the coaches. If you over load positions you end up with a roster with holes. Just having bodies to fill up the 85 is not the goal, thus they wont take any 3 WRs just to have WRs. The accept the guys they want, you saw that when they told cameron walker not to visit but then accepted commitments from stribling, ross, and hopefully mcquay. The coaches want to balance talent across all positions and match a Off and Def scheme they envision, thus some guys are turned away once a position is full.
