I think he ends up at DE, myself.

His body calls for it but with his pass coverage skills you would be wasting one of his best talents.

Do you have any insight on Daniels' recruitment?

Thee VIP post are killing me. I forgot to join today, will make a note to self. Anyway dropping off a dime. I've chatted with Mr. Hawkins and his son is committing Saturday, looks like Stanford. Anyway he told me they have already notified the school they plan on using two officials one to UM and the other to ND. They don't have the $$$$ to visit on their own dime. They're diehard USC fans and he's posting on their site about his sons situation. Seems like Kiffen is dicking Chris around. Do you guys think you'll have room once the season rolls around for a CB? How many are you taking? Should I tell him you probably won't have room?biggrin

That's kind of odd. I wonder what sped up his timeline. We would definitely take him if we have room. If we do take a third CB, it will be one of the last spots be filled

The only thing I remember about him is he talked about attending a Michigan camp, but seemed rather tentative.

Nope. Haven't heard anything about him as far as ND goes. Let me PM one of my chronies on the USC site he normally knows the 411.

  • Anyone happen to know if Orndoff has any other planned visits outside of the one to Michigan?

EDIT: I see he visited Penn State and Virginia back in February. If he doesn't commit then I wonder where that leaves our plans for a third TE. He seems to be the last one on the board showing interest.

Hopefully if he doesn't commit, we take another position. I don't think we need another TE.

Yeah, I'm all for taking three TEs but I think we should hold off just a bit and fill key needs first.

  • Boy, I feel like the TE position is a key need.

    Brandon Moore(SR)
    Ricardo Miller(RS SO)
    Some walkons

    Incoming 2012:
    Devin Funchess(lean)
    AJ Williams(big)

    2013 commits:
    Kahid Hill(H-back)
    Jake Butt(lean)

Who am I missing? If I'm correct, we are pretty thin at a postion that is heavily utilized in Borges offense. I know its not a sexy pick, but I hope we take a third TE at a position of weakness rather than take a third LB at a positon of strength.

    Paskorz is switching to TE.

So in 2013 we will have 6 TEs. Is that really all that thin? I understand the need for depth but you don't create depth in one year. That's what got us the roster problems we have now.

I agree. Not to mention i see us being a hybrid offense still until Shane Morris takes over at QB which probably won't happen until 2014 at the earliest. I would much rather we skip a third TE this year unless we have a scholarship open late for one.

Devin Funchess will leave UM as the best TE in history.

Just a little nitpicking, but in Borges' offense Khlid Hill's position is called the U-back.

Some big shoes to fill. Plus, he's going to have Denard or DG at QB for his first 1-3 years before we see a TRUE pro style offense and Shane.

  • We don't need another TE...we're not Stanford. We have blocking TE's (Moore, AJ Williams)....Receiving (Funchess, Khalid Hill)...and Dual (Butt and Ojemudia if needed). Yes, we need TE's but that doesn't necessarily mean we need one in this class. We have greater needs than that. I think we can land an ELITE TE in 2014 cause we'll be in on them early. But the 2012 team is not then there....just inexperienced.

Paskorz. Yes, thank you, I knew I was missing somebody. Ok, I agree with the number of tightends, but I still disagree that all 6 will be servicable. Let me rephrase: We are going to be thin at blocking tight ends. You dont want a 220lb tight end sealing the edge on the line of scrimmage. You dont want to count on a freshman either, but at least a 260lb freshman would have more physical capability to do so. So AJ Williams, Paskorz and some walkons(god bless them) will be our blocking tight ends. Thats thin. Maybe 2 scholarship blocking tight ends is enough. Maybe we dont employ the prostyle offense until 2014, but this position still requires physical development. Not many 6'5 265lb tight ends comiing out of high school.

Moore is a senior, he wont be around in 2013. Elite tight end in 2014 is nice, but again... If you are depending on freshman to be key contributors, you are in trouble...

I didn't say 2013...I said 2012. In the year '13 those frosh will be sophomores and will have some experience. If you take a 3rd TE this year he won't magically be a senior next year. You will have to play with some inexperience no matter how you slice it. Plus if you keep taking TE's you're goin to have this problem again 4 yrs from now cause they'll all be leaving at the same time. You build depth by taking a couple every year or 2. Not all at once. #CrisCarter C'mon Man. It can wait...we have bigger depth issues other places. If y'all don't see this let me know.

  • @Moon:

From what I've been told, Borges really likes the 2 TE offense and will implement it in his Gulf Coast Offense. Athletic TEs create mismatches that are hard to match-up with for defenses. Hence, it's not just spread teams that are using using 2 TE sets.

However, the coaches want to maintain speedy deep threats. That's why the coaches want 3 wideouts in this class.

In essence, imagine if Barkley had Stanford's TEs to complement his stud WRs (Woods/Lee). Put another way, imagine if Luck would have had USC's stud WRs to complement his TEs (Fleener/Ertz).

It theory, it's an awesome hybrid of both sides. Remains to be seen if the coaches can pull it off.
