Or bringing in a sixth tackle?!

You mean AJ Williams? He's reported as big as Magnuson, 6'6, 285.

  • Lance Lenoir clearly has game.

    Yes, please.

Treadwell and Lenoir could be our version of Robert Woods and Marquis Lee (both from Junipero HS in California).

  • How good is the QB at Crete? He must be pretty good with 2 stud WR. Often thought Treadwell has been down to us and the Okie schools for months. Just think he is jerking around and staying uncommitted to bring more attention to others on his team,

Crete-Monee's lowest scoring game and closest game was a 30-7 victory.

Marcus Terrell is the QBs name. Not much of a profile.

Rumors were flying around yesterday that he actually committed.. Looks like we'll add him and probably lose Anzalone to UF, all rumors of course. I'd swap Muhammad for Anzalone any day of the week. Last year Shumate, hopefully Muhammad this year, and next year possibly their former teammate Peppers..

Are you even in the top 3 for him. I'd say he comes here and if he doesn't, he goes out west.

    Rank Player Yds Years
    1. Emmitt Smith 18,355 1990-2004
    2. Walter Payton 16,726 1975-1987
    3. Barry Sanders 15,269 1989-1998

Stats for all time rushing leaders in NFL. The argument was what a great offensive line could do for an average running back. Well, Emmitt Smith having the most rushing yards in NFL history kind of proves what the best line can do. I am old enough to have gotten Paytons autograph his rookie year.woot I thought the things Payton did would never be seen again until Barry came around. Smith played behind probably the best O-Line ever assembled. He did not have to do what Barry or Walter had to but he does have the most yardage.

Relating this back to recruiting. Michigan has just taken in top O-Line classes the last two years. If I was a a RB in high school wanting to be a star at the next level I think the decision would be very easy. Taking into account the tight ends and full backs Michigan has recruited just makes the decision easier yet. Chances are Green will be all blue after his visit. If not Michigan already has Smith and Shallman who will become excellent backs.

    * *I never saw Jim Brown play. He was before my time. biggrin I do think Brown was the first modern power back which gave him a huge advantage since defenses never had to deal with a RB like him before.

I'm well aware of where they rank in AT rushing yards. Would take Barry Sanders ahead of Smith all day everyday.

No way. Jim Brown deserves to be in the conversation, but Payton is below both of them.

    People don't realize that Payton:

Has either the 2nd or 3rd most fumbles of any non QB in NFL history Only had 1 season where he averaged more than 5 YPC Only had 10+ TDs in 5 out of his 13 NFL seasons.

Payton did everything that a teams asks for in a back. Hard nose runner, breakaway speed, great out of the backfield in routes, and was a ferocious blocker.

Sanders was a special talent, but had a ton of negative plays and was stopped all too often in big games. He wasn't great at 3rd and 1 situations either. He was probably the most entertaining back to watch though that I have ever seen.

Lions and B. Sanders fans forget that Walter played behind a worse OL than Barry did.

Payton was a lot like Adrian Peterson, maybe a few lbs bigger. The thing is, he played at a time when most athletes were not what they are today. He was completely ahead of his time in regards to athleticism.

I am not trying to take anything away from him, but I do not think he could have done what he did in today's NFL. Barry on the other hand could do what he did anytime.

So you compare him to AP, probably the best RB of the last 5 years, but then you say Payton couldn't do the same things, even though they are very similar?

AP is very good, I do not see him making the top 3 of the all time rushing list.

I'd have to say you are mistaken. Defenses back in the 80's were every bit as good as they are today. The athletes were every bit as good too. When the Bears went to the Superbowl the last time they supposedly had a great D. Me and my buddies sat around and discussed which one of them could play on the '85 Bears. We could not come up with anyone.

If anything I think the opposite with Payton playing now. Most running backs today seem soft to me. I'd love to see Payton blow up a DB or a LB in today's game. People forget how bad or have no clue how bad the Bears O-Line was in the late 70'sand 80's. In Paytons first 8 years the Bears had 1 Probowl O-Lineman. Heck the year the Bears won Payton was the back up QB in the NFC Championship game because the 1st and 2nd string QB's were knocked out for the season.

Payton and Sanders are the only exceptions I know of with RB's succeeding behind bad O-lines.

That's misleading. For a stat like this, you need to be healthy for a decade and have a consistently good O-line. Neither is the case for AP. He has been one of the most injured backs in the league, while remaining one of the best.

What's worse. Losing a yard or two on a play , or fumbling and giving the ball to the other team? Yeah.

And sorry, Payton's lines weren't worse than the one's the Lions assembled during Barry's career. It's not even close.

Lol, it wasn't just one or two yards. Most of the time Barry ran backwards like 5-10 yards trying to run to the other side of the field and he would get stuffed. That created 2nd and 3rd and very long in which the Lions offense couldn't overcome. That's pretty much giving the ball to the other team too.

And sorry, you're wrong on that.

Barry had Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover for the majority of his career. Both of those guys are Pro Bowlers and All Pros.

Walter didn't have a pro bowler on his OL until the 10th year of his career.
