    Not really.

He commits to Michigan, Michigan is going to be playing in Big 10 championships and getting BCS invites.

He commits somewhere else, Michigan is going to be playing in Big 10 Championships and getting BCS invites.

So we can't make the national championship ever? no

BCS is gone soon anyway. But I doubt any team from the Big 10 ever gets a chance to play in the National Championship for the next 5-10 years.

This is a bit overblown. We were 1 game away from making it 5 years ago and Ohio made it in 2006 and 2007.

Those teams had a lot more than the current ones though.

The National Championship is a BCS game.

That doesn't mean we can't have teams like that within the next two/three years.

  • Been watching Michigan football for 34 years. I think the most talented team I will see will be in 2-3 years.

It'll hard be hard to top the 1997 team. IIRC, that team had 30+ NFL players on the roster.

The teams from 85-88 were pretty dang good too. I think they might have been as good. First 2 games in 88 were a killer. I think the 2014-15 might top 30 NFLers. I really can not see any area of weakness if the recruits develop as they should.

30+ NFlers is a once in a decade kind of thing. It could happen, but it probably won't. Half of the team has not even stepped on the field yet and there are tons of 4* and 5* who have ended up doing nothing. They sound and look good but I wouldn't have such large expectations yet.

Yup. Schembechler could've won 3 National Championships in 4 years at the end of his coaching career.

Our early 90s Rose Bowl teams were pretty loaded as well. In particular, the 1992 team went undefeated with a record of 9-0-3. We were right there with Miami and Alabama that year.

I agree that 30 NFLers is a lot but it can and will be close to the standard in the near future at Michigan.

To me the "Star" rankings are almost meaningless once the kids get to school. If the recruits have good enough talent, size, and speed to make it to Michigan then coaching, practice, and training are the only thing in their way. I will stand by our coaches in getting them prepared to be elite in college and to go on to the NFL.

There are a lot of 4* and 5* kids that are busts so to speak. There are also many guys like Brian Griese that were given the opportunity and excelled. Outside of injuries many of the 4-5* recruits that do not make it relied to much on their natural talent and not enough on their work ethics. I think our coaches have been looking at kids with very good work ethics along with talent.

  • Moving this back towards 2013 recruiting. I was wondering...since Michigan typically loves "Michigan Men" and legacies, do people have any idea if we have or may offer a PREFERRED walk-on spot to Christian Skrepenak (Greg Skrepenak's son)? Or possibly if we do not get LT, then possibly Berkley Edwards or Jake Roh (later in the process)?

We offer the best prospects that our coaches' think have the best chance to suceed. We don't just add someone because their family has some connection to the team.

If you don't know him personally, how do you know there's something wrong with his attitude?

As much as I love your thread name I have got to agree that throughout the recruitment process LT has had somewhat of a prima Dona attitude. This is a man who, when he said his mom said it's ok to commit, he commented how his twitter followers went down (because everyone was assuming it was going to be U of M). Do not get me wrong, I want him BAD but as people have said, if we do not get him, we'll move on and still be Michigan...the most winning program in college football history.

I understand that...that's a pretty obvious statement...Christian Skrepenak is a top 100 OT in the country (we offered a preferred walk on spot to Dan Gibbs last year and he was ranked around the same spot). Christian already has other D-1 offers so clearly he has talent. Berkley has BCS offers and Jake Eoh has been getting recruited by most schools in the country. So as I said before, does anyone know or think we will offer Berkley or Jake late in the process or a preferred spot to Christian.

I could definetly see a preffered walk-on offered to christian though I'll be a little surprised if the coaches offer Berkley. He just doesn't fit the profile for what the coaches are looking for in a rb, if we hadn't taken Norfleet last yr as a change of pace back and return man I think Berkleys chances would be much better but I somewhat doubt they offer another back like that with Norfleet in the fold.

I like Dawson a lot, and I'm sure he heard about Conley. Love that camaraderie.
