Does Darius Latham have a Michigan offer?

Yes he does. He is also very high on Michigan so we could put ourselves on the top of his list after this visit.

  • Thanks.

I like Latham a lot because he might be invited by Coach Beilein to walk on to the basketball team.

While Latham's future is in football, he's a productive basketball player for a very good Indiana HS basketball program.

    That's interesting I didn't know that.

I want Taco to focus as much as he an on football because he needs to learn some technique but I wonder if the coaches would let him walk on for the basketball team.

  • There seems to be some confusion over Pocic and the possibility of a 6th OLineman.

Someone on GBW posted that according to Pocic said, after a conversation with Darrell Funk, his Michigan offer is no longer valid.

    I'm having trouble believing that.

It's true man, no more Olinemen have valid offers. At first the staff was willing to take a 6th guy but now they only want 5 for the moment. We'll see if anything changes but we have bigger needs we need to address.

  • Thanks for the quick response.

I'm surprised but this is yet another instance that reminds us of the "fluid" nature of recruiting.

Clearly, something changed in the span of a few days.

Yup, the circumstances must have changed that they feel like they want to fill the spots with different needs or they didn't want to upset the current commits. Another thing, this is pure speculation BTW, that they know something about Darius Latham that we don't and they want to just take Latham because he can play both OL and DL if they need him to. We'll see but in the end I think we could fit another OL in.

  • Scout has a free article about Kugler's commitment and he said this...

"Basically they just said they are looking to take five linemen and if the numbers do switch around they could possibly take six, but most like they will take five. Anyway, (if they sign one more offensive linemen) to make this team better is fine by me," Kugler said.

See, our coaches are honest. Numerous times we've heard about how open and real they are.

  • I also think that it could have something to do with Latham. Given that he seems legitimately capable of playing on either side of the ball at the college level, the staff might see him as a better fit given Latham's versatility.

Still, I'm just a bit shocked that our coaches would pull an offer from a blue chip (top 100 consensus recruit) who has us in his top group.

Admittedly, I get the sense that this decision could be a way of serving notice to our other targets. Hence, it acts as a catalyst that compels them to reach a decision sooner.

  • The best part about our OL commits is I don't see any of them looking around even if we take 6 kids. They know that by competing with the best talent around the country it will make them better and the rotation we use with OL they will get playing time.

His offer probably hasn't been pulled just it isn't committable at the moment. If he waits until after the Spring practice we should have a better idea of spots and needs.

Yes, exactly. It's not that we are 100% set at taking five O-linemen for the class, but at the moment we are not taking more than five. If there's a spot open after filling needs down the road then things could change, perhaps.

  • Thank you for the clarification.

Btw, has Darrell Daniels (WR from California) scheduled a visit date for Michigan yet?

  • Pure speculation on my part, but it could be that hey didn't like getting strung along by diamond and Garnett and will not go through that again, particularly when they already have 5 studs who want to be here. Hoke is a big rah rah Michigan guy who part of, I imagine, gets offended if not apalled when someone doesn't want to come to his beloved Michigan. You don't want to be here and have to think about it? Think about what? Were Michigan fergodsakes!

Yeah but with Pocic the way he makes it sounds is that if the coaches would accept his commitment he was going to. If you notice they will probably still recruit him very hard along with McGovern so that they don't cut off any ends if someone were to decommit or be ineligible academically.

Must be thinking of someone else that said they wanted to leave their state then.
