Thanks for the info Richard.
I'm fond of Malik Zaire's game. I think that he's the rare dual threat QB that can excel at a pro-style offense with a few zone-reads mixed in.
He'd be an excellent get for Meyer. I'm curious to see who Meyer takes as QBs in this class because of how the 2014 class is shaping up.
Ideally, we'd take a dual-threat to complement the Morris who is pro-style but I get the impression that our coaches are looking forward to the 2014 class and planning to take 2 QBs then.

Zaire definitely has a great looking tape. If I compare his tape to Braxton Miller's Junior year film, Zaire seems to have nicer touch and throws a nicer deep ball. Miller really had no talent whatsoever around him, so its understandable why he threw less and he was less developed at that point, though. Braxton looked slightly better as a runner, but its close. Miller probably is more elusive and Zaire stronger and looks a little faster. Both have good vision.
In response to CWEBB's question, I would be surprised if Marshall sees much time if any at QB at OSU. He's not that well developed as a passer, but easily is the scariest looking runner of any of them. As a result, I'd say that as of now OSU really has no QBs for the class. I can see us taking 2 QBs this year.
My understanding on Zaire and all of the other QB recruits is that their offers are conditional on Meyer and the staff getting to observe them in person. Its a very reasonable request since these highlight videos only show the best plays and don't speak to consistency or decision making skills entirely. As a result, I can understand that need, especially wrt the QB position. The risk is that Zaire gets turned off b/c he's being shown unconditional love elsewhere. I don't think this situation could have happened 3 to 5 years ago, but with the speed classes are filling up these days, the risks are falling on the schools to offer early without ideal information.

Just because we are running a pro-style now doesn’t necessarily mean, were restricted to only recruiting statues. Most W.C.O’s prefer a guy with some mobility (like McCoy, McCnabb, Favre, and soon to be RG3). I think Shane falls in to that category as well. I wouldn’t consider him Mike Vick, but he definitely could be considered a dual-threat by some people’s definition like Luck and Rodgers.

I think the full story is that Marshall asked Meyer if he could try being a QB role, Meyer said something like we could try you out if you want but made it clear he thought Marshall's future was in a Harvin type of role (Harvin has to be really honored to have a position named after him!) and the level of improvement necessary to wind up being starting QB would be significant. Marshall seems fine with that in the end. That being said, you can see Marshall taking some snaps in the Red Zone and in other special situations. I'd love to see a play where Marshall, Miller and Zaire all are on the field at the same time. That would be really confusing to a defense to say the least.

I'm not too worried about facing other teams' offense, but more worried about picking up some playmakers to go with Shane Morris. If we get Isaac or Deveon Smith or both, then I think our balance on offense will be tough to compete with. I'm confident in our D recruits and Mattison. Definitely not afraid of any of the dual threat QB's that Meyer is recruiting right now. Malik Zaire is good but I'm not sold on him throwing. He's got a great highlight tape but his WR's are WIDE open. I could be wrong, but I need to see more of this kid.
