Anyone know how many commits at this point are planning to be EE's? Seems like its over the limit but I can't really remember what that limit is anyway. Is it a specific number or however many you can fit in before hitting 85?

I don't believe there is a limit. If i am correct up to 3 can count toward the 25 limit of the previous year but each EE does not automatically count in the previous years numbers.

the calculation for early-enrollees is esoteric, I've never fully understood it (and no one has been able to explain it that I've asked, lol) ... if factors in the numbers in previous years

but the 85 is a hard-cap (except maybe for PSU transfers)

Kyle Bosch, Logan Tuley-Tillman, and there's been talk of David Dawson and Dymonte Thomas wanting to EE too. There may be more, that's all I know about.

So, I just pulled this NCAA clarification of special transfer rules for PSU players off their board. According to the third paragraph, schools already under scholarship restrictions cannot exceed those restrictions:

    1. If a student-athlete transfers for the fall of 2012 to a school that has reached its scholarship limits, the school may exceed these numbers for the 2012-13 academic year, provided it reduces such limits proportionately in the 2013-14 academic year. For example, if one student-athlete transfers to a Division I school already at the legislated limits of 25 initial counters and 85 overall counters for 2012-13, the school will be limited to 24 initial counters and 84 overall counters in 2013-14.

    2. If a student-athlete transfers after the fall 2012 term, the standard financial aid rules governing counter status still apply, including the midyear replacement exception. If extenuating circumstances arise that may warrant a waiver of the standard application of financial aid rules governing counters, waiver requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

    3. A school subject to scholarship limits due to an infractions case is allowed to accept transfers from Penn State but cannot exceed the scholarship limits specified in its infractions report. Athletically-related financial aid may not be canceled during the period of the award and these schools are not permitted the same exception allowed to schools not under Committee on Infractions sanctions.

doesn't help us because we're already 7 under 85. What we need is one and done players.

Yeah, I guess you have to figure Miami and Oregon are at risk, though if the NCAA goes at their normal glacial pace those sanctions won't be in place this year.

Edit: Also, add Baylor to the list.

What the hell is going on at Clemson? They are having such a sudden jump in profile that you really do start to wonder.

  • From a bucknut:

"I suspect Jabba the Hoke is taking 4 CBs in the class to try and deal with the spread offense, the only problem is he thus far has not landed an elite CB. He has a few good ones, however their speed and size are suspect at best. The 40 times for three of these CB recruits are 4.5, 4.6, and 4.7 if you average the various times listed on rivals, 247, and Scout. Lack of size and speed = Spread offense gonna run wild!"

    Sorry, I just had to.

You can cherry pick the ratings from different sites and present a meh argument. Stribling and Conley are high ceiling guys, and Lewis and Douglas are high floor guys.

But the most important position in dealing with a spread option like Meyer's is safety, particularly an athletic strong safety to roll up into the box. Michigan has got Dymonte coming in, and he is as good as it gets for that role.
