2013 Recruiting Hotlist

  • Its never a waste of time for coaches to pursue top end talent, no matter where things "may" stand... This is their job... They have to pursue every avenue of guys that are showing interest... No matter how big or small it may seem, it would be a disservice to not do their due diligence in trying to land that kid... You only sign about 5% of the kids you offer and the coaching staff had been hitting more than missing... There are enough hours in a day for them to look at guys like Su's and Kendall and then still look at Hand and Peppers... The coaches are not stupid.... They get how the process works... Donovan Warren-like situations always keep a small glimmer of hope when I "follow" a kids recruitment, but Ronald Johnson-like situations always keep the "fear" in me... Its a fun game to follow but need to stay as level headed as the guys getting paid for and that have jobs that depend on these kids.

  • You are half right about Vanderdoes. He isn't coming to Michigan, but I don't think anyone is talking him up as a possibility. Hurst, Poggi, and Augusta are current topics of conversation.

I cannot really fathom a Cravens commitment to Michigan at this point, but you have to remember that the midwest trip he is trying to take are to Joe Mathis' favorite schools. Michigan may not be able to blow Cravens away enough to get his commitment, but if he loves the school and his visit, it can only help us with Mathis. So I'm going to keep up with that recruitment.

Larue will be tough, as I don't know if he'll be able to take unofficials in the midwest, but its still very early in his recruitment and there isn't reason to give up hope for him yet.

Fuller legitimately likes the university, is comfortable with the coaches, and is friends with a number of Michigan's commits. Plus he has already made plans to visit on what is probably Michigan's best recruiting day of the summer. It would be silly to count him out at this point.

Not to knock any of those guys, because they do a great job. But, they do have an interest in being pollyannas. Steve, Todd, and Clint do a much better job of being objective than some of the Bucknuts writers, but I don't think they are gonna come out and say "You guys should just give up on Cravens, already" even if we should just give up on Cravens, already.

Pessimism doesn't keep the readers coming back.

I was about to defend you because I thought people were coming down on ya too hard after your initial comment... I disagree w/ that comment but didn't feel people should've been comin at you over it.

But this latest comment has me not wanting to defend your right to free speech.

  • Some really really minor updates I found:

According to Tremendous Leon McQuay has us in his top 5.

And Zach Bradshaw is thinking about taking another visit to Michigan (http://southcarolina.247sports.com/Article/ATH-Zach-Bradshaw-still-has-the-Gamecocks-high-on-his-list-74705). I think we were recruiting him as a receiver earlier, but he says that they like him as more of an H-Back or linebacker. I wonder if they talk to him a lot because as far as we know we're full at those positions...

Guess you could've been the next RR.

But seriously, you don't understand why the coaches need to go after these long shots hard. That's OK. It's part of a longer term strategy.

But who are you really? You have 13 posts and a lot are negative. Show us you're true Blue.

why are you bringing up where they live. im not saying we shouldn't go after guys from tx fl ca. im saying we should stop going after those 4 guys because they are not coming to michigan regardless of where they are from. its a waste of time.

Toomer was the#1 recruit in the country and wss from Concord De La Salle in the Bay Area. He was a longer shot than Cravens or Larue. Getting Toomer helped put us on the map with other Bay Area recruits, including Guttierez and Brady, when they saw the success Toomer had going East. It also started a relationship with the country's top program at the time, De La Salle. Even when we don't get them we are building relationships and we are building the M brand in recruits eyes.

Yes they say that about all the kids in CA, FL, and TX. I assume you're joking.

    But if not:

Did you not like Amani Toomer? How about Anthony Carter? Or maybe a kid named Brady. Or perhaps someone more recent like Denard Robinson?

Who says that about kids from those states? CA and FL loses tons of talent each year. TX schools and OU do a better job of keeping kids home or close to home. I'd consider Cravens to USC about like a Cass Tech kid to UM.. Good luck though I'd love to see him end up anywhere but USC. Would help with Smith a bit...

thumbsup even if you miss on these kids you're building relationships with coaches and future targets..

  • Question: Should the Michigan coaches recruit Johnny Stanton (rising 2013 QB from California)?

If the coaches showed interest in Shane Cockerille of Gilman in 2013, I don't see why not. Like Cockerille, Stanton also plays safety on defense. Stanton is seen as a mix between Jake Locker and Tim Tebow.

  • I don't think that we need another QB with Shane Morris in the fold. It may also handcuff our ability to get guys like Deshone Kizer, Chance Stewart, and Jayru Campbell in the near future.

  • ^ That's what I was thinking.

I like the notion of taking Kizer (and Stewart if he develops well as an underclassman) in 2014. And then taking Campbell who has supposedly already started sculpting his body.
