2013 Offseason Thread - Michigan Football

I didn't really see any on the Bucknuts board too upset about it, not much "This is BS" type of stuff...maybe one or two...

I think everyone is in "wait and see" mode for your offense since what we've seen the last 4 years was DRob...Honestly, DRob was a scary dude to defend as he could break one on any play...

Yeah, truth be told the Bucknuts didn't care that much, beyond a few outliers. Sparty, on the other hand...wow.

I think most Bucknuts don't care because they realize they'll get good players too, so an extra year of Devin Gardner isn't a slap in the face. Sparty already has such an inferiority complex that Michigan getting an extra year from a dynamic and talented QB is just too much for them to handle.

Some are, but my favorite are the contingent that clearly never saw Gardner play and are happy because they believe this means two more years of bad Borges' 'spread' and that Devin only runs around like yakety sax in the backfield and throws arm punts. Also they apparently ignore those pesky stats where Gardner led the B1G in passing efficiency. (Caveat is he couldn't officially qualify to be ranked because you need to play in at least 75 percent of games)

I like how they're all also ignoring that play against Minnesota where Devin bought time with his legs, and then threw a 50-yard frozen rope right on the money to Drew Dileo while running to his left and having to twist and throw away from his body. I love Denard, but he could never have made that throw. Devin Gardner is going to be a matchup nightmare, and the B1G is going to hate him.

  • They don't like it cause they know Gardner is good and will give them problems. They know we're a more balanced team with Garnder and harder to defend. Just haters hatin'

Seriously, in the span of one offseason we've downgraded to a slightly less mobile QB but added an infinitely better running game and a QB who can actually make all the throws. Balance, thy name is Brady Hoke's offense.

  • I honestly feel if Devin can play on par with the SC game....we shouldn't have a problem. Ya he missed some throws and what not, but made some big ones too against a better defense than he'll see all year next year.

With the exception of the ND game, practically our entire schedule is a warm-up for OSU. Devin will have plenty of time to grow in game situations and build off the success he had last year.

  • For some reason I'm not really worried about ND this year. But its always a game and we'll need to come to play to win. I don't think that'll be a problem after last year tho.

At home at night helps a lot... But they return a lot... OL should be very strong... DL will be a bear... secondary will be very good... Golson is not fun to defend... I think it will be a slugfest

May not be popular for me to say this (because I'm the enemy), but if Gardner was QB against ND last year, you guys win by 14+...

No, that's the generally-held opinion. Denard threw 5 picks, FFS, and Vincent Smith threw another, and we still only lost by 7. If we a) have a competent throwing QB and b) have a solid running game, then we can neutralize the ND front. We knew our lack of a great running game would force us to have to win it in the air, and Denard, God bless him, is not a throwing QB.

I expect our 2013 game plan against ND to look a lot like Bama's game plan in the NC, with a little bit more freedom for Gardner to run (since AJ McCarron running looks like a wounded donkey).

ND will definitely be a very formidable task next year. Tuitt and Nix are game changers, what a great challenge Nix is going to be for our young interior Oline. We'll find out real quick how good our interior guys are. Their secondary should be solid. On offense the loss of Eifert is going to be a pretty big loss imo. Should be a great game though.

  • If our defense comes to play, if we give up less than 21...we should win. I feel like we can score more than 20 on them next year.

Heck, the running game wasn't even totally the issue. We did rack up over 160 yards rushing against one of the most stout run D's in the country. And we missed a field goal after that first interception in plus territory. Denard's terrible excecution is really what did us in. That and Borges' ridiculous play calling that was setting up Denard to be in positions where he is shown he is not good at. Heck, in the third quarter we drove the ball 60-something yards running QB isos with Denard and got it into the endzone, where Denard promptly fumbled right into the hands of ND. It was truely a calamity of errors. You shouldn't lose games when you out gain your opponents by that much.

Oh Jesus, I forgot about that fumble. That game was Murphy's Law in real life.

Knowing the slimeball Meijer is he probably kicked him off the team to make room for a another recruit. Probably ANOTHER corner lol

Stupid bucknuts. What are they going to do, line up 10 CBs on offense and have Braxton air it out all game?

It's their counter to our strategy of 9 linemen and both the DGs. Flying V, activate!

I forgot about that fumble too. I lost track of it in the other 14 turnovers we had. We dominated ND in every aspect of that game.

  • Everybody should be even more thankful that Taylor Lewan is coming back.

The Chiefs released Eric Winston, which leads to speculation that they will take either Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher with the top pick. Lewan definitely would have been in that mix.

It's just hilarious because even a ton of other Bucknuts in the thread are just ignoring the idiot and nobody else is agreeing with his general dumbassery. I can understand not liking another team, but man - I hope he maintains this level of stupidity so when Devin stomps on OSU and seals the game with his 40th TD of the season his head just explodes.

I just came from reading the DG thread on 11W, and while there are a couple of realistic Buckeyes, there was no shortage of idiots in there haha

And then I realize this is basically what CMXI just said ha

Jesus. I just read through some of those comments and its like every single Buckeye fan forgets that Gardner was one long pass away from winning The Game this year after only playing QB for 2 months.
