Who has been discounting Jack Miller? Seems to me most people think he'll be starting center.

And seriously now, how long did it take you to type all that? lol

    Fvck.

Good thing Gordon stayed for his 5th year.

Edit: thought I was quoting the Ryan post.

  • Well that sucks. Especially for Jake Ryan.

I do feel like we are in a better position to handle the Ryan injury this year than we would of been last year. Last year it would of killed our D.

While I agree, this loss still can't be understated. Jake Ryan is our Gerry Bertier, he cannot be replaced. I hope one of the young guys really steps up and runs with this chance, because we're in a bad spot without Ryan.

Well one wouldn't expect the kid who steps in for Ryan to replace his whole production. What i meant by being in a better spot this year is that we have young kids that i feel can take that step to being a playmaker. Ross, Bolden, Pipkins, Clark, Mario O, etc.... Last year Ryan was our only playmaker on D. I for one am not going to act like we should scrap the season or that our D is going to take a major step back because we lost one player. Even if it is Jake Ryan.

  • We have plenty of time to figure things out. In situations where Ryan was used as a pass rusher, you could see Ojemudia in a stand up role.

Bolden and Ross both looked good when given the opportunity... And Gordon and Morgan both have a lot of experience.

I know it sucks, but I think Mattison will be able to put together effective packages with the talent that we have available.

  • One thing I saw on Twitter is that UM's schedule is back-heavy. So whoever fills in for Ryan will have a ton of time to prep for Ohio, the BCG, and the Rose Bowl ;)

Yep only as long as the other guy we bring is tough against the run we'll be alright.

  • I know I'm repeating the same sentiment re: Jake Ryan, but this isn't a death blow. There are plenty of examples of a team losing a great, possibly even their best, player and being just as good. Remember last off-season about this time when super awesome freshman 5-star Stephen Lynch left ND? Remember how that was a 'huge blow' because he was, justifibly, considered their second best defensive player and had the potential to be their biggest difference maker? That turned out alright for ND's defense it turned out. This sucks, but let's wait until a few games into the season to lament the destruction of our defense and team.

Agreed. If anything, I'm losing a bit of excitement for the upcoming season. Jake Ryan was far and away my favorite player to watch last year.

Did you mean A Lynch? He would have been a freak for ND had he stayed there this year. I'm excited to watch him at USF, he has a lot of good tools and could end up being a very solid draft pick.

Haha, yes, I did mean Aaron Lynch (must of had comedy on my mind). And yeah, he would have been a freak. He kind of already was a freak as a true freshman. He lead the team in sacks, and had 14 QB hurries, again playing as a true freshman. Him leaving is a similar impact as losing Ryan (although Ryan was more productive in non-pass rush than Lynch). And ND actually got better.

Stephen Lynch is hilarious. +1 to you

  • Best thing to help mask the big loss of Ryan... An offense that controls the clock and dominates the opposing D... I think we will see that and Gordon looked pretty good late in the year in spot duty... His sideline to sideline speed is just as good as Ryans but Jake was a HUGE playmaker... That will be the toughest part to replace... His timely huge plays and turnovers.

One thing that should work in our favor is just turnovers in general. While a good defense generates a lot of turnovers, we had a god-awful turnover ratio last year and I really can't see our offense being worse when it comes to turnovers. The average college football team has roughly an even ratio of takeaways/turnovers, and we had a 2:3 ratio last year that was 99th in the nation. A better passing game with Gardner, better RBs, and an offense that doesn't constantly stick the defense in bad situations should help a lot.

As good as Jake Ryan's turnover generation may have been, I think our offense in general will obviate the need for constant turnovers just to stay in games.

Then Wilton said: "Looks like someone is a little nervous hahaa" and some random fan responded with: "Easy boys you are MICHIGAN MEN now", to which Speight said: "had nothing to do with anyone regarding michigan haha"

Neither of them directly addressed the other, and Speight has deleted the first tweet.

  • I know we like team spirit and all that, but the truth is these guys don't need to be best friends. They'll be competing for a job and having a little rivalry will make both of them work harder and will give us a better QB.

True but Shane comes off bad IMO, the 5* ranking kind of went to his head. He has alot to show me

Yeah, it sounded defensive imo. However, it would be a little upsetting to know that your competition is basically getting college level training as a senior in high school.
