The roster is updated with weights and the EEs.

Some of the linebackers didn't gain the weight I had hoped they would. Also Butt is only 231 and funchess 228.

Yeah, Wormley surprised me. That boy will be ready to play, physically.

But Williams is down to a more TEish weight and not a tackle. The fact that he was able to lose so much so quickly tells me he was carrying some bad weight last year. Hopefully this helps him become more of a threat in the passing game.

Seriously. Norfleet weighs more than him. Geez.

Delonte Hollowell is the same height and is 175. He should be gaining a lot more weight or he could not see the field at DB.

Lets not get carried away with Taco's strength. These are self reported weight room numbers, not reps counted at the combine or a pro day.

Good for Taco, but I ran a 4.3 in high school too.....

So I went back and last fall Richardson was listed at 154. So actually moving up to 162 is a definite step in the right direction. Maybe he'll be up to around 170 by fall which would be a plausible playing weight.

Agreed. Morgan at 227, Ross at 223, and Bolden at 222 makes for some light ILBs.

Is it possible the LBs haven't had their updated weights reported? With Manning coming in recently, who knows whether or not position coaches are responsible for reporting weights. He could still be getting acclimated. I'm not saying this is the case, but you never know.

Yeah, I was really hoping those linebackers added good weight. The coaches are emphasizing team speed on d, but we need some beef there....especially ross.
I like seeing wilson at almost 200. I'm not sure where he came in at though

I guess i see it a different way. We are only a couple of months removed from the bowl game. These players just completed a full tilt of games that just ended in January, their bodies aren't going to pack on weight as easily as say lose weight because they are relatively still in season mode. Next, our LBs are still true SO of RS FS. They are still 19 yr old kids. They aren't going to be grown men with grown men LB weights just yet. Just got to keep perspective and be patient and remember, though we have high expectations they are still young and have to grow into their own.

This is probably true. There is no doubt that Ross and Bolden will be hitting the weights hard over the summer. That's where the growth will really happen.

The only thing that gives me pause is Clark and Mario adding such good weight, which I can only assume is good weight.

Would have loved to see some of that in LB core, but I don't doubt the training staff or the dedication of our LBers.

On a related note, I am expecting to see Clark and Mario as the DEs on passing downs this year with both really coming into their own.

Clark is especially encouraging and I think a lot of us believed that after reading about him over the off-season. Still think it could be potentially huge for this defense if he was capable of shifting over to the strong side on passing downs. 275 makes him possibly capable of doing that.

EDIT: And I basically repeated what you said. DERP

  • Do you think Blake Bars could get a shot at the center position if Miller doesn't do well?

The talk from Hoke was that Glasgow, Miller and Bars will be fighting it out for the C position.

And having Jake Ryan blitz from ILB spot like GB does with Clay Matthews? They did that a little bit last year IIRC. It’s a nice look every once in a while but I don’t think they’re going to do it all the time on passing downs.
