dont know what it is about the boilers, but they ALWAYS give us fits!!!!

every friggin yr they either ruin (or almost ruin) a potentially great season...

and it doesnt matter if its in the shoe or west lafayette (spelling)

must be the the big drum or something frustrated

  • a2brutus, can you stop posting in this thread please? I along wth many others do not want to hear about ohio. People have asked you to stop but you continue to post in this one. Just go to one of the many OSU forums if you want to discuss your team.

  • A starting 4 on the D line is really irrelevant with all the rotating that Mattison is gonna do. I'm more focused on who fills Kovacs' spot. Will it be Jarrod Wilson or will Gordon slide over? I would like to see Gordon play more along the front 7. He's a better run defender. Wilson has the speed to recover in the backend. Also interested to see where does Marvin Robinson factors in. Is it pass defense/run defense? And what about Furman? Can't wait til Spring ball.

I was hoping dymonte could get some reps for baclup at safety but he will be starting at boundry corner and nickel.

Hopefully wilson won't be a liabity this year in run support. Generally kids make tbe boggest jump after tbeir freshman year, so I'm confident he will have physically matured.

Most of the leaving seniors on d right nkw believe gordon knows the defense in and out and will be a vocal leader oit there. He get kids in the right spot, so that tells me its his job to lose right now

  • I never thought Thomas Gordon was ever really that bad. Did he get beat sometimes? yes. But EVERYONE gets beat, especially as a DB. But he has made a fair share of plays too whether it be forcing fumbles, recovering fumbles, interceptions, or run support. I have the utmost confidence that Thomas Gordon can get the job for us this year and then pass the torch to Dymonte. Some of you guys get way too worked up over and over analyze and over criticize the mistakes and it blinds you to all the good things someone does. In Hoke We Trust.

  • I think it is still a bit unclear how good Gordon is. The Gordon Kovacs safety combo was very slow. Hopefully playing next to a faster guy in Wilson will allow Gordon to be even more effective.

The secondary is the biggest concern for me on D (and probably on the team) next season. It's imperative that Countess is ready to go and effective in the fall.

I'm pretty confident in gordon right now. He pribably adds a little athleticism to strong safety as well. If gordon can add what kovacs did in terms of being a field general, will will be in good shape.

Gordon's not that slow, or at least as not slow as Kovacs. He doesn't seem like type to be a centwrfield ball hawk, and if Wilson puts it together we'll probably see more of hik playing the Kovacs type role in thw secondary. I agree that it remains to be seen how good he is. And Wilson hasn't really shown any great speed yet either. Keep in mind he was probably responsible for the last SCal TD, as he was very late in getting over, and didn't really flash great recovery speed to get there after realizing he was late. But I'm not writing him off yet considering the coaches seemed OK in playing a true freshman at safety and nickel corner (even over upperclassmen) which is very difficult to do. But, again, he hasn't shown much of anything other than being a liability in his time this year.

I'm not sold on Gordon. He let me down last year. He is solid but we need playmakers in our secondary and I just don't see Gordon being that.

Come Willy, cut the man a break...he's doing the best he can with his talents. And he was the best we had to choose from the last two years. We can all be sure that all the kids we see playing are the best we have cause they gotta win/earn their position every week. I think he was a playmaker....caused some havoc in the back field a few times, cause fumbles, and in 2011 the dude straight was a ball magnet.

Come now Moon, I never said the man wasn't trying or doing his best. I just don't think he is that good of a player and we could use an upgrade at the safety position from the past couple of years. Just giving an honest opinion.

Moon said it correct. Who else was going to play back there? The coaches are playing the best 11, to Gordon's defense I think he was playing out of position. He is more SS than FS, coverage that way is more On TE if needed vs WR. kovacs played closer to the line thus Gordon was playing centerfield against WR, Wilson has better instincts playing FS I think Gordon moves to strong this yr and Wilson steps up at free.
