  • Out of all of the commitments Michigan has, which ones will play as true frosh?

    I’m going with Pipkins,Wormley,and Kalis.

  • Kalis seems like a good bet. AJ Williams or Devin Funchess could get some serious play time. Pipkins is probably going to see the field based on what we've seen from our DT's this year and with Martin leaving. I'd like to see a defensive back get on the field but I'm not sure who it would be.

Pipkins will start i think. Wormley will compete for playing time. Kalis has a good chance of getting PT.

I think Ross is going to push the middle linebackers for playing time if not to start. Whichever WR's we sign will have a good chance of getting PT. Dunn if we land him will play. Funchess could see the field. And God please oh please let Yuri Wright sign and start the very first game next year.

  • I think the question should be which commits WON'T see the field next season

    Allen Grant
    Blake Bars
    Sione Houma

    Caleb Stacey

I think actually if Houma can block and hold on to the ball better than Hopkins he might pass him for the FB spot. Either that or he redshirts since we don't use a FB much in Denard's last year.

As for who I think can make it, I see the following definitely getting PT:
    Pipkins
    Kalis
    Wormley

Recruits we could possibly land that I see getting PT:
    Wright
    Diggs
    Garnett
    Banner

  • Just going on who we have today, I'd say :

    Pipkins
Two of Godin/Wormley/Strobel -- have nobody at SDE at this point, and unknowns at 3tech.
    Kalis
AJ Williams -- by far our best blocking option at TE.
Jarrod Wlson -- Thomas Gordon is the only kid coming back with experience at FS.

I think we will also see a bunch of position changes after the season which will determine who else plays. Cam and Jake at the same spot doesn't make a lot of sense, and Furman and Marvin have regularly been talked about moving closer to the line.

    Erik Magnuson
    Ben Braden
    Kaleb Ringer
    Royce Jenkins-Stone
    Terry Richardson
    Anthony Standifer
    Mario Ojemudia
    Pharaoh Brown
    AJ Williams

Those guys are almost guaranteed redshirts, and I would say that Wilson, Godin, and Strobel are most likely going to RS.

i have a question and i honestly don't know the answer to this.

Wilson plans on enrolling early next year. Is it normal to enroll early and Redshirt?

  • I wouldn't be so sure with the amount of freshman Hoke is playing this year he probably wants to get more of his guys on the field.

I don't really know, but I am going to add a piggyback to your question:

Who chooses to redshirt? Do coaches solely do it or do players sometimes since they know they wouldn't see the field in their freshman year and they want as much PT as possible during their time at the school?

Sometimes it's both. Erik Magnuson, for example, wants to redshirt.

As for Maize&Blue's question, it's not out of the ordinary. Gregg Brown was on pace to redshirt this year if he stayed, but he transferred. Someone as talented as Wilson could easily see the field, but I was projecting a RS because of our safety depth. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays next year.

He needs a year to muscle up. If we don't get Yuri Wright, then Richardson might play, but if we do get Wright (which is looking good right now), then Richardson would RS to bulk up and Wright would get a lot of PT, maybe starting.

I'd say of all of our Oline commits Braden and Kalis are the 2 that are college ready right now. Bars may redshirt but he is technically solid and is at a good weight for depth concerns.

he is talented but he would get pushed around by big receivers like nothing. I guess we could hope he is as physical as the Honey Badger but i don't think anyone is college football is that physical

  • I'm a bit of a homer because I see these kids play almost every week, but I think Terry Richardson and Royce Jenkins-Stone have gret potential. RJS will start off the bat IMO and TRich will probably be in a nickel package. They got to sign their LOIs and make the team first.

They have great potential but college is a completely different game and they will need some weight and coaching

I really wouldn't sell RJS short. It might take him a few games to crack the lineup, but I think he will see signifcant playing time next season. But that's just me.

He easily could. Bolden and Ringer are both enrolling early, though, and that gives them the inside track towards getting the LB PT next year. We don't have bad depth at LB, and it would be nice to be able to RS guys like Ross and RJS. I know we've gotten away from this with our atrocious depth over the past few years, but people have to remember that it's good to redshirt great players lol
