2012-2013 Bowl Season

  • Wow. In the three games that I watch besides the Michigan game, the teams that I want to win collapse in the fourth quarter. Unbelievable.

    Damn, can LSU pull off the upset? Looked like LSU may have hurt themself with the missed onside, only to have Bama fumble in the Redzone and LSU drive the field for the go ahead score.

    So far today, Pitt pissed the bed and MSU pissed the bed with 4th quarter leads. Don't you follow that lead LSU.

    Man am I an effing jinx today. lol

    LSU has left 6 points on the board going for a fake fg and going for it on 4th down. They have also missed 2 FGs.

  • The psychology of sports is amazing. It's funny how this drive looked nothing like any of the drives this game before, basically LSU's D and Bama's O in entirely different mindsets from the rest of the game and it made such a difference.

  • Horrible play by the LSU RB. All he had to do was get the first down. The clock stops. He didn't need to get out of bounds.

  • I love how Hill could have gotten the first down there easily, which stops the clock and would let them spike the ball, but instead randomly runs sideways and doesn't even make it out of bounds. Freshmen eh.

  • How Alabama's o-coordinator forgets how to coach for a half and yet they still win is phenomenal. I'm in shock of how sick Yeldon is.

  • This game proved to me beyond a reasonable doubt that LSU wins in spite of Les Miles.

    He cost his team this game. His team outplayed Bama and lost because of multiple bullsh!t decisions.

    I think that's a bit unfair, I think Les Miles is a coach who lives and dies by the sword of high risk decisions. He's won a fair few of those on the back of ballsy "crazy" choices as well, obviously he's gonna lose some as well.

    And beyond that, I think if Miles has any trust in his kicker he does not call that fake FG. He wasn't exactly proven wrong by the kicker either.

    I'm on this side of the argument. He goes for it all. He trusts his players can make his unconventional decisions pay off - and players love that. The onsides was so close to perfect and I loved the fake FG too. He puts the game in the hands of his players for better or worse. In this game, sure they back fired, but I love his strategy. Honestly, I was hoping he'd go for it on 4th down with 2:10 left instead of kicking the field goal. He was due for some good luck.

    Here's a laundry list of a questionable coaching decisions by Miles in this game:

    1. Fake FG on a 4th & 12 on what would've been a 40 yard attempt
    2. Kicking a 54 yard FG with a weak-legged kicker rather than punting it with an All-American punter.
    3. Taking out Mettenberger and substituting a RB to run the wildcat on 4th & 1.
    4. Relying exclusively on the run game rather than utilizing Mettenberger (who was on fire) to ice the game.

    I understand that Les has taken risks before and that they have paid off. But to attempt these things against the defending National Champions (and Nick Saban of all coaches) suggests foolishness to the point of reckless abandon.

    Lastly, you can't claim that Les didn't have trust in his kicker and then successfully explain why he used the same kicker to attempt a 54 yard FG given that LSU has one of the top 3 punters in the nation.

    If he truly didn't have faith in his kicker, then Miles would've chosen to punt on that drive. Likewise, Miles would've used his All-American punter to punt on LSU's final drive to pin Bama inside the 10 rather than attempt a 45 yard FG (which the kicker missed and, therefore, gave Alabama better-than-normal field position).

    That Mettenberger played the game of his life against the best defense in the land was Les's good fortune.

    Les didn't understand that and it cost him. He took the ball out of the hands of Mettenberger, who was on fire, and tried to run on Bama to ice the game.

    Purdue reminds me of Illinois from last year. Got quite a bit of hype going into the season and then didn't live up to it. It's coaching. Zook was a horrible coach at Illinois and Hope is a horrible coach at Purdue. I never bought any of the Purdue hype this year.

    I feel the same way.

    Pitt should have won.
    Michigan State should have won.
    Louisiana State should have won.

    And the NY Giants (with a struggling offense) losing at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers has only added to my frustration.

    Do they root for UM for a chance at the Gator Bowl? or

    Do they say screw UM we wanted the Car Care bowl anyways!?

    Amen. We were SO close to seeing the KSU-Oregon matchup that I wanted in the title game. SO CLOSE.

    Also, Notre Dame's luck has to run out at some point...right?

    It just seems like we've only gotten one major break all year (to the extent that you can call that pass to Dileo setting up Gibbons' FG against MSU a break), whereas many of our rivals have gotten completely game-changing breaks (ND's many escapes, Denard getting injured against Nebraska, MSU blowing it against Nebraska, Purdue failing to close out OSU, etc.)

  • Florida is No.6 in the country supposedly and just *barely* got past UL-Lafayette - at home. If a Big Ten favorite and NC contender got that, all the ESPN blowhards and SEC fanboys would talk about how down the conference is etc.
