2012-2013 Bowl Season

It makes me angry because he sucked at Michigan and set Michigan back, but then he goes to Arizona and instantly starts winning.

I guess. Water under the bridge for me.

What did you see specifically that makes you state that Fitz didn't "step up"?

I saw 4 defenders tackling him before the los. I put it on the line. I didn't see much good or bad with him. This should be good practice this week.

That is what I saw. Not a Fitz issue, an oline issue.

  • Thank you DR...what a performance. DG took major steps forward and his potential at WR is fantastic. Although Big Will had nothing to do with our inability against the option play he was handled all game long... one of the worst interior lineman performances I can remember. Just from this game he sure isn't the answer in the middle.

The line seems off this year, they have been great is pass protection, but run blocking is below average because they struggle with combo blocking.

  • I haven't seen this mentioned yet.

Vincent Smith is responsible for 2 of the 3 interceptions by Michigan's QBs thus far.

He tipped Bellomy's pass (in the 4th quarter of the Alabama game) and he tipped Denard's pass yesterday. Both passes were catchable but bounced off his hands.

2 of the 4. But yes, it is extremely strange for our best pass-catcher at RB to drop 2 passes already.

    This is Michigan, fergodsakes.

  • Thanks for correcting me.

So yes, 2 out of 4.

And he was supposed to be our best pass-catcher coming out of the backfield.

  • All those clamoring for Bolden to start, looks like they were playing him mostly because he apparently played against Option Offense all the time in High School and knows how to defend it. I figure that means Demens with at least another start this Saturday

Have they been great in pass protection or are teams focusing on containment?

That's rhetorical. Alabama absolutely did not turn the dogs loose, and god help us if we struggle in pass protection against AF.

How is RR having so much success already at Arizona? He would have been blown out by Okie State if they played them at Michigan. I hope RR has success, but it will make me a little angry why he couldn't get it done at Michigan.

Lets take it easy before proclaiming Arizona a success. There's no telling actually how good OK St is this year, but they averaged 1.5 more yards per play in the game than Arizona.

Arizona simply isn't going to win many games when they are outgained in yardage 625 to 500. It helped that OK State had four turnovers to Arizona's none, including a int return for a TD.

Unfortunately for Demens, he doesn't look any slower against triple option than he does against everything else. Bolden will pass him soon.

He excels in conferences that don't require defense to be successful. (I.E. Big East, Pac-12, Big 12)

Very true. And based off of his recruiting here I'd say this might be his most talented team he has there.

    No Greg Robinson.

  • I would love to see what Dennis Norfleet would add coming out of the backfield... Seems to make people miss and is great in small areas... Hope they give him a shot... Wouldn't mind seeing him at PR as well.... For the mere fact that I dont want Gallon to get hurt... Frank Clark needs to keep his nose clean because he has a great shot at the NFL when he is done here.... Great hands and seems to play the most aggressive brand on this team.... Love that Ross is getting snaps... He is not overthinking anything which is great against an Air Force team but may hinder him later on... He is a major upgrade from Morgan IMO who seems to be 2 steps slow to the ball.

  • Ok, so I watched more of the second half(which I previously missed). I am slightly less worried about our defense then I was watching it on gamecast on my way home from a family vaca.

    Some points:

    1. Our offense was on the field for 53 plays. That means our defense was on the field the entire game.

    2. Air force executed perfectly. Literally, on almost every play. I don't care how big the disparity is with talent, if a team executes well they will win. And We won(partly because their d was bad).

    3. 30 plays on defense air force ran a fire zone run blitz. It's not uncommon that our running backs didn't get yards. I'm not excusing anyone because We still should have put more yards up. But its understandable.
    a. I stated the need to complete the 3 step drop to beat Alabama. It will be even more imperative going forward. Every single team will run these defenses to stop our running. HOWEVER, the emergence of funchess being a threat up the middle will help immensely to keep defenses honest, along with Gardner getting better on the outside.

    4. Frosh on defense should get better fast. I like what I saw. It's a matter of time for them to be starters. Our depth should be much better For the msu game.

    5. That is all for now

This. The reaction to the first two games have been a little embarrassing in their hyperbole.

lol Everybody(including the media) is overreacting and writing Michigan off. All of a sudden we have no shot at the Big Ten title and they may as well crown MSU the champs and send them to the Rose Bowl now. Well, I still expect to beat MSU and win the Big Ten title.
