0-2 start doesn't discourage Tim Izzo

  • roflmao Detroit News story headline says that Spartan head coach Tim Izzo isn't discouraged by the Spartans 0-2 start. Tim Izzo? BWAHAHAHAHAHA. I might have to break my own rule of "no Spartan Tailgate" just to watch all the "Blue Wall" comments. hahahaha. suckahs.

Michigan States 0-2 start is not discouraging to Tim Izzo

When Izzo walked out of Madison Square Garden after Tuesday's loss to Duke, he felt great about his team opening the season against two top-10 teams.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

I am not about to defend Sparty, but I will point out that they have played 2 really good teams to start. This is better than beating up on creampuffs. They SHOULD be better off later in the season for having played these two games, but it also shows that the regular season is meaningless.

You're welcome to come on by, but there isn't much discussion on this. We've got a potential Rose Bowl berth to focus on for the next few weeks.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Losing to two of the top 10 teams early in the season is not a big deal. But I really question if MSU is that much better than last year, which could be a problem.

Wait, what? How is that even possible; you have to at least post on there once for us to ban you. I'll remove the ban once I find it.

hence the word "potential". I was just trying to say that the board is focused more on football right now than bball. I'm not saying that we're expecting to go to the Rose Bowl, though we're fairly confident that we'll be in Indy. I don't like playing Dan Persa on SR day though . . . .

yeah but even with the one loss to NW, which shouldn't happen, I think you guys still go. Ur offense is weak, by that I mean ur QB play and OL play. Ur RB stable and receivers are probably best in the B1G. Ur defense...very legit. Enough balance though to find you in Indy

It depends on whether or not UM beats Nebraska. Hard to get a read on that game. If you guys lose, MSU needs to beat Northwestern.

Also, our QB play has been pretty good outside of the Nebraska game. He just threw 3 TDs and no INTs against Iowa, and has 16 TDs against 5 INTs this season, as well as having thrown for nearly 2300 yards already.

OL has been a concern all year, no doubt. Nice day against Iowa though (1 sack, 155 yards rushing, RBs had 163 yards and averaged 4.9 YPC). I think the next 2 opponents could lead to some stat padding, which is cool, because all the other Big 10 contenders have had their games against the bottom of the conference already lol.

Rocky, are you a basketball wizard as well? Just curious for when basketball season kicks into gear, are you the same as you are for football?

I don't have the time to do basketball previews, though I understand the game pretty well. I'd put football as my #1 easily though. Kind of odd, considering I was at MSU for Bobby Williams and JLS, but I've always been a bigger football than bball guy.

Well, it is and it isn't. It would be different if we were talking about a team that is going to easily tear through the rest of its schedule and is a lock to make the NCAA tourney, but I watched both the Carolina and Duke games and MSU was out of both relatively early in the second half. They closed the gap late in the Duke game, so the final score ended up closer than the game, but they never really threatened Duke after the first half.

Just like us, MSU is effectively breaking in a new point guard and is going to have some growing pains this season. It's very possible they will end up as a bubble team again this year and OOC losses on neutral courts, even to good teams, are not helpful. At best, the Carolina and Duke losses represent missed opportunities to have signature wins and build a stronger resume and RPI; at worst, they will make it much more difficult for MSU to reach the magical 20 win mark that bubble teams should strive for if they truly want to feel comfortable of landing an NCAA bid.

There's absolutely nothing embarrassing about losing to Carolina and Duke this year, but it's certainly not a positive either. And bubble teams need all the positives they can get.

Its trcmb, football and basketball takes a back seat on that board. Nothing with it, it helps keep the board active.

The hype around MSU or UM? I'd argue there's no hype around MSU, they weren't ranked in the preseason and probably won't be ranked till close to the end of December, if then. It's definitely a rebuilding year for MSU, though the chemistry is already better than last season.

Lies! They like to pretend like Michigan fans are welcome on tRCMB but you will be treated very poorly if you go over there.

That's directed at the individual poster, not UM fans as a whole.

  • Last I checked, MSU lost to the #1 team in the nation and another top 10-ish team. Starting 0-2 isn't shocking. Making something out of nothing. SMH at doubting Izzo, it only makes him more dangerous.

The point of the original OP wasn't about Izzo being 0-2. It was about him being called Tim and not Tom.

MSU was down by 20 in both those games. That was the shocking part. They weren't competive and were and embarrassment for the B1G.

For state. All of the talking heads on BTN and ESPN are feeling state finishes as high as SECOND in the B1G. In all of their predictions, they have state finishing a spot ahead of Michigan. It's really making me scratch my head. confused

I think this year it will be a 3 team race in the B1G. Michigan, wisconsin and ohio.
