For me, when people talk about academics as it relates to sports, I don't care what school rankings are. What really matters is how much the coaches emphasize academics. Rankings have little bearing on that, unless admissions standards are so high that you need to focus on it (e.g. Stanford).

Northwestern is way low. Indiana should be on the list just because of their business and medical schools, but reputation isn't always reality. ND is a case in point...They should be very high on the list as far as reputation but I know them well and the reality doesn't match up imo.

Yeah, the fact that these rankings are reputation-based change things a bit.
Case in point: Washington University in St. Louis - top 5 med school, top 20 law school, top 20 undergrad, yet not very well known even in the US. Name's not synonymous with the Ivies, despite it being ranked right up there.
Reputation-wise, it's ranked in the 81-90 category here.
